Question on value of signed baseball?

Since losing a dear friend to Pancreatic Cancer a few years ago we started a foundation in her honor. Every year we do a walk in Nashville IL and do a live and silent auction. That's Cards territory (BOOOO!!!).

My dad has some cool connections in the sports world and was able to secore a signed baseball from the 2005 St. Louis Cardinals. The ball is donated by MLB and comes with a certificate of authenticity, tracking # through MLB.com and the letter sent to my dad confirming the donation of the ball.

While I'm a sports fan, I have no clue where we should start the bidding for this live auction item? Of course we want to maximize what we get for it as 100%of the money raised goes to pnacreatic cancer research... but I don't want to start bidding too high and scare people away. Any ideas on what this is worth? Websites where I can find a value? So far my search has come up empty.

Nicole

Check with one of the local sports card and sports collectables shops in the area. They can help guide you to some figures.

I wound't bother with the local baseball card shop. They're far from experts.

I'd start the bidding at $100. I'm not sure what you expect to get but I'd be surprised if it went for more than a few hundred. $250-$350. You would obviously get the high end of that range if the auction was in St. Louis

I did baseball autograph stuff on a regular basis years ago

I say it's worth nada (I hate the cards! CUBBBIIIESSSS!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!) but regardless of my personal opinion cards fans love their team...and since Nashville IL where the walk is held is Cards country, I'm hopeing it will be a big hit. We're working on something from the Rams also (Another team I can't stand!..lol).

Dodgers also have a really good fan base much like the Cards. Neither team won the world series in 2005. I'd say this is a good compairison

Who did win the series that year????...don't remember...oh well

I think your estimate sounds fair. Do you think we'd be better off doing an ebay auction for the sports stuff? I know we'd get a wider audience on ebay...

Try eBay with a reserve, if it doesn't sell just lower the reserve another notch. Don't listen to my estimate, I also hate the Cards.

Ya, sounds like ebay might be my best bet to raise the most money for the foundation. Ya, Cards blwo...but if they're fans are willing to donate for a good cause, they can't be all that bad

I would think ebay would be your best bet. I personally would set the reserve for $150. Look around ebay and see what else is there. Just search "team signed baseball"
