Bears QB Battle

I was visiting the Chicago Bears website and I noticed that they have declared Orton as the starting QB for Thursday nights preseason game. While it is only the preseason, I have mixed emotions about who should be the starter. That being said, I would like to see what others have to say about our QB battle and who should get the start against Indy.

They have also said to not read into it to much it's only preseason and both Orton and Grossman (aka douche bag) are going to get equal ball time and plan to start Grossman on the 2nd preseason game. As of now it's just a battle to set the tone and decide who the starter is going to be come season opener.

I just dont know which poison I want to go with:

1) Orton: You get a fresh mindset to have someone new slinging the ball around. The downside is that he will still have a lot of learning and adjusting to do- which could result in another roller coaster season. While he has gotten better over the years, he has not done anything that really had that "wow factor

2) Grossman. We all know he is capable of making the big plays, but has he become mentally tough and football smart. He has gotten a good reality check over the past season, but has he improved enough to be more consistent. Again, it could be another long season.

It will not matter if there is no running game and the line can not protect. At least we won't have to watch MM drop balls that hit him in the hands.

Based on the past, Neckbeard should get the ball for now. Its not the long term solution, but its the best we got

From what I'm hearing it's not a battle, Orton will be day 1 starter barring injury or some other surprise. Grossman has had every chance to prove what he has (I still like the guy btw) and has failed to prove he's an every weekend NFL starter. Additionally, he's being booed at practice......WHO THE HELL GETS BOOED AT PRACTICE!!

Their defense has not been that good lately either.

I think you are right about this. I think that people overlook the fact that some of Grossman's play is what got us to the Superbowl. Instead, they boo him because he was part of the reason we lost. I see where they are coming from, but I am not a fan (not yet, anyway) of making Orton the rebound guy if he is not equal or better than Grossman. From what I hear, Grossman had a tough practice Friday at Soldier Field because he was working behind the second string line...who wasnt doing so well in buying him time. Orton, working with the first team, looked solid. It was reported that Grossman looked good the following practice when he was behind the first team line. Why draw out the dramma by putting Grossman w/ the 2nd team at SF with some very critical fans watching his every move?

No Favre, and I agree that our defense lately has not been so sharp. We have talent, but they are getting older and are staying on the field far too long. We need a good offense to keep the defense healthy and good.

I think Grossman should start. He was playing decently at the end of last season and with a better O-Line out front and a running game that does not involve Butterfinger Benson he might have a decent season. Benching Grossman was the best thing that ever happened to him. After he got benched, he was playing better and not forcing passes. I think his big problem is that he forces passes to make plays that just aren't there, resulting in picks. He wasn't doing as much of that later last season; opting to take the sack or throw it away. I say give him a shot. I don't like Grossman that much, but I don't think Orton is good. Orton can not lose the game, but he cannot win the game. When Orton was playing, he was just hanging in there relying on the defense to win the game. With Grossman, there is still a threat of a big play.

Brown will be out week 5- 3rd quarter. I will take it one step futher and say it will be with either a knee, ankle, or acl injury.

I actually agree with this. Orton has not shown that he can go out and make the big plays when it matters the most. While Grossman has been inconsistent at times, I have more confidence in his abilities. I think Orton will be a good #2 QB, but the frustration by Bears fans in general is giving him some undeserved love/special treatment.

Have the Bears even decided how many QB's that they are going to roll w/ this season?

I think that the majority of Bears fans see that Grossman screws up alot and the one time that Orton was a starter the Bears won all the games. They equate that winning to Orton. This however is not correct. Orton did not win those games, he just didn't lose them. The defense won the game, Orton just managed not to cluster-fuck them. Thats no way to get to the Super Bowl.

Another factor to consider is the QB and receiver relationship. I know Grossman and Hester have a good relationship- which was proven by their random decision to swap jerseys a few weeks back. Orton may get down to business, which I can respect. However, you just dont hear about Orton creating team comrodery (i cant spell) and establishing himself as a leader.

Brown will be out second game 4th quarter. After his great first comeback game with 2 interceptions and 24 tackles, and an interception in the 2nd game 1st quarter.

And after that, he will be dropped by the Bears and become either an insurance or mortgage broker. The real question will be whether he works for State Farm or Country Companies.
