need to get a bowling ball...recommendations on a good one

so this is my second year in a bowling league although i have been bowling my whole life. i was using my old roommates ball for the second half of last season but thats not really an option any longer so i want to get my own ball. what would be a good one to start with? the one i used before was a pretty old 16 lb urethane ball with finger tip grips and pretty sharp hook. the thing would only hook if i threw it nice and slow. if i threw it too hard it would never bite. i'm right handed. any brand recommendations or good places to buy the ball would be great. i have a place to get it drilled but i think i could find the best prices online for the ball.

We could do a bowling night some time too ... and group some teams in an amusing fashion:

Bosses vs. Grunts
Kaws vs. Yamahas
GPS vs. Yahoo! Maps

Could be fun!

Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

I have the same problem you do.

I have two balls, but neither feel right on my fingers. But I figure my balls are so old, that maybe I should look into getting some new balls. Or, maybe I can have a ball specialist examine the balls I have to see if they're still good, and if so, maybe they can suggest having them fingered differently.

I've also been told that I shouldn't be using those balls without a wrist guard, but I never saw any reason to have that. I don't twist my balls as much as some others seem to do.

So Brendon, if you come across any good deal on balls, let me know. And if you get a chance, ask them if you brought your balls in if they could take a look at them. Never hurts to get an expert opinion.

best thing to do is to talk to a proshop at the alley you bowl in most freqquently, the oil patterns and amounts aplied as well as the actual lane material has a huge effect on the handling of the ball.

simply cleaning the ball can have a mojor effect on the ball as well, I use this stuff that comes in a small spray bottle called knock out, its cheap and cleans the ball exceptionally well in my oppinion.

I use a brunswick 15lb 11oz el niño. It is old, and has been replaced by newer ones. Things you have to remember is
1) Throw the heaviest ball possible. The mass will make up for speed.
2) Where are you using it? Plastic lanes and wood lanes are radicially different.
3) The ball MUST be PROPERLY fitted to you. I will only go to Tinley Bowl to get a ball drilled. They take a lot of time, measure your hand, and have you bowl a few games with your old ball and remeasure. Your hand may swell during play.
4) Are you throwing a curve/hook? Talk to the pros, and have them recommend a ball.
5) Get your new ball. Bring it to a winter bowling event. I will still be CLSB bowling champ.

you didn't make it out towards the latter part of winter. Eugene dethroned you with a 245

yeah seems like that's going to be my best bet. the pro shop that i'll be using is very respectable. the guy has been there for prob 30 years. he has tons of trophies and plaques up for him bowling 300 games and what not. thanks for the help though.

pro shops have a limited selection so if there's something you research and they don't carry it, take a look at http://www.mgbowling.com/

prices are decent and they have a warehouse in Fort Wayne, IN. so the stuff that I ordered from them came next day via UPS Ground.

the local shop can still assist you with analysis on your arm speed and make recommendations on how much hook to give your ball with the way they drill around your pin dot

i would be happy if i can break 200 this year. i bowled a 187 and a 193 game last year but couldn't break 200. i'm hoping getting a ball that is specifically taylored to me will help me get there.
