Chicago handgun ban, another view

Never really thought about this one since I am in a pretty safe neighborhood and have always been legally able to own handguns.
But there are plenty of older folks who worked their butt off to buy a house years ago and their neighborhoods went to shit and now they need a way to protect themselves against the criminals preying on them.

If Chicago is to get the ban lifted I think this is a way better angle to take rather than the NRA being the public face of this issue. I like the NRA and they have deep pockets, however law makers are really not sympathetic to them. They are seen by non-gun owners as crazy gun folks from the south who would arm 5 year olds if they could. Think having grandma and grandpa sitting home defenseless is something more people can relate to.

Agreed, the NRA stance on many things is more of a hinderance than a help, IMO.

I'm not from the south; I armed my child at 1. The only non-gun owners that are worried are the ones who are ignorant or misinformed.

With that said, the NRA is very smart. What I did NOT read in the article was the fact that Mr. McDonald was approached by the NRA and ASKED if he would be part of the law suite. See, a few years back the NRA held a rally here, and Mr. McDonald attended. After hearing his story the NRA actively recruited him to be one of the martyrs on this crusade. It's funny how you don't always get the full story.

Although I am an NRA liver I don't always agree with the politics but realize it is a necessary evil. The NRA built a nice big cross, now let’s see who gets nailed to it and burned.

I'm glad. It's good to know they are NOT trying to hide anything from anyone. Seeing as I'm a gun nut who is scared of my country I don't ever watch the news as I'm to busy loading ammo for the 2nd coming.
