MM23e Field Trip to Michael's Machines (PIC HEAVY!!)

Hey All, just thought I'd share some pictures (with Mike's permission) I took yesterday while I visited with Mike Otte to check on the progress of my MM23e.

I'd like to thank Mike for taking the time out of his busy day to show me around and see his amazing collection of firearms (most HK products I've ever seen in one room) and test firing a couple of the MM23e's that he has done. It's been 20 years since I fired a machine gun on F/A so it was an absolute hoot.

My only concern shooting was trying to control my laughter. It was far too much fun!! The MM23e shoots so nice. It's really an outstanding rifle. Fit and finish were far better than any factory or clone HK rifle I have ever owned or fondled. I shot one of his MM23e's that has over 18,000 rounds through it. We looked inside and there is no way you would have ever guessed this rifle had 18,000 rounds through it. No marks or gouges on the rails, finish was perfect.

Well, on to the pictures. I have these in a larger size if anyone is interested just shoot me a PM.

Receivers in various stages of assembly. About 7 had feed mech's and barrels, another 5 had barrels, the rest were painted and ready for assembly.

The two that I test fired and are now ready to ship (you lucky bastards!!! lol)

On to one of his vaults:

Top two are HK23e's (one is unfired), bottom two are Coast Guard 21e's

PSG 1 from the movie Lethal Weapon (The actual rifle Mel Gibson used) and an MSG 90. I didn't get a picture of his MSG90A1 so you'll have to trust me that it is an awesome rifle.

Couple of SD's

Other HK stuff

MP5 9mm, .40, 10mm

Couple of 416s

Sigs

Bad Boy M240

MG42 & MG74

Buy a rifle from him and he'll have you down any time!! lol.

Mine should be done in about 3 or 4 weeks. I plan on belting up about 1K rounds and "breaking" her in right with his auto sear. We are trying to put together a Buffalo rock run this summer for Mike to come up and bring his sears to run in our 23's. I'll post up when we do that. Everyone is more than welcome to take a rip.

Mike Otte from Michael's Machines. In my opinion one of the best HK smiths in the country. He will build you anything you want. All you need is $$,$$$. He really got started with the HK21 builds off of PTR receivers so he has a lot of experience with belt fed HKs. He has a clone MSG90 built on a German reciever using a never fired MSG90 parts kit for $14K among others (MP5, MP5k, HK53, etc, etc, etc). You literally can not tell the difference from factory aside from the welds (Mike's are much nicer). 618-570-8641.

http://www.michaelsmachines.com/index.html The web site sucks but you'll get the idea.

He has his FFL SOT 07 and is an armorer for local PD and SWAT. <-- Demo letters up the ass. lol.

Hello mate,
the Hk's look great!
I'd like to know if I could ask for your possible assistance in the near future please?
I'm planning a specialist PSG 1 project and need a specially built Trunnion, I have e-mail Mike through he's webpage and would like to know if you would pass on message form me. If he does not check his e-mails in the next week or so?
A bit about myself, I live in London, England where we have some very draconian Firearms laws. I have worked in Baghdad for the U.S. Army for the past six years and I am currently applying for an Italian Gun licence. I need my project Rifle to have Trunnion which allows the Barrels to be inter-changable for Legal reason and also for own personal reasons. Mike is, I believe the only guy who could help me build this custom rifle and would really appreciate your help.

thanks

Tony

Tony,

I would call him. 618-570-8641. He is slow to answer e-mails, if at all. I would develop a spec for your proposed rifle and shop it around to some other smith's. Mike can be interesting to deal with at times.

I had Mike build me a "super" HK11e (photos here). The super included all the accessories that make the PSG1 great (stiffening rails, bolt, silent bolt close, etc). What you'll need is a barrel blank (you're choice of material and length) that Mike will cut down to fit in the 11/21 trunnions. There are some sources for US made reproduction 22" 11/21 barrels that should be hitting the market within the next few months which if they are like the original German 22" barrels should easily net you 1 MOA or better at 1000 M. You can then add the PSG1 or MSG90 trigger pack and Magpul stock or track down an original PSG1 stock.

For reference the super 11 rifle was $5800 without glass. I would guess with a good barrel, PSG1 trigger, and PSG1 stock you'll be into this for between $6500 and $7000 (without glass). Of course this is with a PTR receiver. You could always use an original HK91 receiver and have him cut it up but your costs will go up. If you do choose a PTR receiver make sure you insist that the mag well be checked. A recent batch of receivers was sent out with out of spec mag wells.

Check out HKPro.com for other smith's as well as more technical info. They have a very good forum with usually good, friendly, knowledgeable members. Good luck with your project!!
