XD series

Im in the mood to purchase a new gun. I want a .45 with 4" barrel. Several people have told me the xd line from springfield is really good and a good investment. Im far from a good shot and just want a nice simple gun I can learn from. Just want to get opinions from the sharp shooters here before I go spending 5 hundo.

45 because I got hundreds of rounds already, reloading equipment so ammo is really cheap. No reason for the 4" barrel, just wanted something decent size without a lot of barrel.

The XDs are nice enough. Nothing special though, just your typical cheap polymer service pistol. If the the Glock grip angle or 2x4 like grip on the Glock 21 isn't your thing, it's a good substitute.

.45 maybe too big for a beginner, try starting on a 250 or sv650 All kidding aside I have a .40 xd 4" and love it. I've tried other pistols but have never shot as well as I do with my xd, I think mainly b/c it fits my hand best. I've only had two problems with mine. First being one of the lips on my magazine got bent somehow which gave me some problems but that was an easy fix. Second was my front night sight broke off after getting stuck in my holster. Other than that no problems with probably 3k rounds through it.

. Ive shot a few hundred rounds of 45 and I can handle it no problem. I just need to learn how to shoot. I also have my 22lr which has helped me a lot.

I am looking at buying an xd as well. I borrowed Alex's xd9 at the range and liked it a lot. ive shot most of the plastic guns out there and never really been a fan. but the xd was very smooth. although I'm going 9 or 40, 45 is for 1911's

I had a xd 45 when they first came out and really liked it. I ended up dropping down to a xd 9 cuz of ammo prices though. If you want to try it out, buy a box of ammo and let me know

I've been looking for a 9mm also. I have an HK .45 now, my first choice is an HK 9mm. I fired an XD9 a few weeks ago and liked it. My first 2 shots went through the same hole at 15 ft. My last 2 shots I was able to put on target at 50 ft. Not bad (for me) for about 25 rounds. I really wish I would have bought one when they were about $350.

I reload my stuff so prices arent much for me. 22 bucks gets me 250 hp bullets, 20 bucks for a pound of powder which will do over 1000 rounds, and a box of primers cost 20 bucks for 1000. I always pick up every empty shell at the range also so I almost always come out with more then what I came in with. If I make it to a range when ya go il definatly give it a shot.

This is a really good forum for info on what pistols people are running in competiton, and why. Gives a decent indication on what to expect from a gun.

I have a 4" XD45 and couldn't be happier with it. It always goes bang, feeds any ammo I've ever put through it, and fits my hand nicely.

Side note, I shot my boss's XD-M 9mm the other day. I dig it. The texture on the grip is much nicer. If they come out with an XD-M in 45acp I may upgrade.

I wouldn't put the XD that low on the totem pole. It's a very nice "combat" style service pistol. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with it. In the .45, I really like the Tactical which is the 5" barrel.

I've owned several XD over the years, including the original I imported from Croatia back in....2001 I think it was.

Wow, where you getting primers for $20! I guess it's been a while since you've bought any reloading components?

If you want high quality, high accuracy bullets, buy bulk and save $$. www.MontanaGoldBullet.com

There are other great ones out there, but I've found the MG to be the most accurate for practice and target, though they are shitty personal defense rounds as they don't mushroom for shit.

I thought you weren't supposed to reload brass from a gun with an unsupported chamber like an XD and a Glock? I've seen too many pics of XD blown apart and I saw it happen at Maxons on a .40 XD (I didn't know the details but the guys bloody thumb was enough for me). I'll stick with my M&P's, thank you.

I think I did a poston thsi long ago.

Brass from guns with unsuported barrels should be sized all the way down till the die kisses the shell holder on your press. This will remove the guppie belly from the brass. Also, blow outs generaly occur in high pressure rounds were people try and hot rod teh cases in order to make some type of power factor.
Usualy seen in .40 cartrides a KABOOM is possible in 9mm and .45.

That why reloading is a risky bussiness when you don't knwo what's going on.

And P.S . I remember when primers were 16.00 per 1K

Arrogance has to be earned.

I would love to have that and I know I will someday but for right now, its not going to do any good for me. It would be like buying a gsxr1000 just so I can ride to bike night and back. Very cool and I could use it but I could make better use out of something cheaper to learn from. Besides isnt the price tag on that in the range of $1000?

XD's are very nice guns. I have the 9mm one and love it. As for my 45 I have a Kimber and like it also. Can not go wrong with the XD, I often think about getting the 45 version. In my opinion the XD's are one of the best bang for the buck and my favorite plastic gun. Even the non-match version is super accurate. Those Croatians make some nice guns.

Sorry, that's bad info. The XD is a fully supported chamber. Please don't lump it in with the Glocks.

Most Kabooms are user error.

I did a comparison a couple of years ago between the 1911 and the XD. https://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com...36&postcount=5

The XD is a great pistol and is easy to shoot. I have never had any problems on either of mine. The main reason I went to the XD over the Glock was because of the ergos. My Glocks both ran fine and never any issues out of them either, I just prefer my XD for a tupperware bottom.
