Kimber BP Pro 10 II

Anyone familiar with the Kimber BP Pro 10 II 1911?

Brianne just traded a guitar for one of these. Seems like a neat budget high cap .45

She got it with a stock 10 round mag, and a pair of 13 round mags that look and feel better than factory.

I can't seem to find much on this pistol. One of the first things she wants to do it swap out the crappy sights on it. Anyone know if this Kimber takes standard 1911 parts or if it has to be BP Pro 10 specific parts?

This was kimbers lame attempt at a wide body poly 1911.

We couldnt give these tings away at the time. The good thing is that the top end is a standard 1911 top end so if you ever wanted a traditional lowert on it you could do a swap. Any standard dovetail sight will work. Nothing special about the sights

But what's wrong with them besides the 1911 guys don't trust "tupperware guns"

Thanks for the info on the sights. They suck hugely.

Define "wrong with it"! Cause I never used those words. I said LAME.

The guns always fired when shot and are acurate. So from a function standpoint nothing is "wrong" from an R&D level they spent NO money in getting the frame right. It's tecture sucks, the angle isnt right, it has no provisions for grip swaps.... It sucks! It's lame. this was a rushed product into a market that was better developed. Like I said, the one saving grace is the fact you could always put the upper on a real lower.

Lots of Coffee today?

Don't get your panties in a bunch, I just wanted you to expand on what you were saying. Thanks for doing so. As long as it shoots and is accurate, it will be a fine .45 for Brianne to use (and me to borrow).

Nah, we had it up for $350 for a quick sale...I'd be surprised if the guitar could fetch $450 if I waited. When we get bored with the Kimber, we'll just flip it for the cash which she will probably roll into the HK P30L she wants.

I think you made out pretty good, then. It's easier to flip a gun then a guitar, either way. Good luck finding .45 ammo though. I just wiped out the Walmart on 83. They had WWB .45 for 31.99/100. I bought 5 boxes and some .40 federal. Opened a credit card account (that will be promptly closed) to save $20.

Where on 83 is this Walmart? None of the ones close to me have ammo. $32/100 is cheap.

There's plenty of .45 ammo out there if you're willing to pay for it. Megasports has shelves full but the cheapest is $23/50. I'm pretty sure LonelyRaven reloads anyways.

I think I remember him saying this. It's the Walmart in Villa park. I call there EVERY morning looking for ammo. The black lady that answers the phone (the customer service manager, ironically), hates me. Whenever I call, she won't transfer me to sporting goods, she just tells me, "we haven't received any ammo shipments." I've resorted to tricking her with an English accent and asking about different sporting good items.
Sol Rosenberg also calls asking about Huffy bicycles at least twice a week!

Lame gun but AWESOME deal at that price- Nice job Brie.

Throw it up on the EE for a trade, you'll be able to get into a nice piece real quick.

External extractors on 1911s are lame as hell.

No worries. It's not the first time you've bulldozed me like that in a thread, and I doubt it will be the last...we certainly aren't thin skinned around here.

YES! Exactly...I setup the deal, and she bitched at first "but I want a better guitar, not a pistol that you happen to want". But then after getting it in her hands and me explaining we could flip it with the high cap mags when she got bored with it she's like "oh, I'll probably just keep it and save up for the P30L". Women!

It's surprisingly balanced for a plastic .45, and one of the few things I can find out about it is "it's Kimber accurate". So if she has any issues, I'll help her flip it, otherwise she likes it...and it's smaller than the Desert Eagle.

Any idea what exactly they are doing to make it right?

What I'm reading in the 1911 forums is that Kimber is pretty good at taking care of their customers...even if not the original owners. So I see the people with the EE issues sending their pistols in, and either getting completely rebuilt slides, or even slides with internal extractors in place.

Since this is a cheap Kimber, I'm not sure Brianne would get that kind of treatment, but you never know.

At least now she has a .45! Now we just need to find a good belt holster for it. The SERPA we picked up at Cabela's last night doesn't fit the (slightly wider) plastic frame. So I'm giving Blackhawk a call today to see if they have one that does.

If she is not too concerned w/the name, take a look at some of the Squier Tele's. Good $$ value and last time I checked not all came with the baseball bat neck.

She learned to play on a '73 "special order" Custom Telecaster. So she's partial to natural finish with thin neck and humbucker in the neck. I don't think she's too hung up on model, as long as it plays well for her.

She was hesitant on selling/trading it for a long time, because I built it for her as a birthday present...I even took it to a shop to have it Plek'ed for $200 and it just didn't play well for her. I think she was afraid I'd be mad if she ditched it after all the work I put into it.

And I'm fine, I have three Strat's right now. I'm just looking for something for my woman.

No worries on the thread jack, it's all about gear IMHO.
