Pistol Ammo availability observations

The conventional wisdoms says that 9mm is the easiest ammo to get a hold of, as far as pistol cartridges are concerned.

However, in my quest to find 357 Sig locally (steel match on Friday), I've noticed that seems to be no longer the case. Gander Mtn and Walmart had a maybe a box or two or various flavors of 9mm. 45 was about as scarce, too.
Instead, the shelves were piled high with .40 S&W, and that was about it. (did find one box of WWB 357 Sig, luckily)

Looks like I'm buying a conversion barrel.

26.97.

Only reason I'm buying locally is to try and scrape up enough to shoot my new M&P at a steel plate match on Friday. Just got this one on Monday.

Otherwise it's bulk orders from
ammunitiontogo.com or
ammoman.com
or whatever I load myself.

I need to upgrade my Dillon SDB to a 550 or a 650 so I can handle bottleneck cartridges like 357 Sig. I've got the 10mm/40 setup for the SDB, but I hate 40 on principle.

Since Brianne picked up that Kimber, we've been scouting out the Walmarts, Big R, and sporting goods stores.

.40 S&W is practically FALLING off the shelves. 9mm is so-so, and there is even some .380!

.45 ACP can only be found in Personal Defense rounds for about $1+ a round.

I just put in my first order for www.missouribullet.com for .45 and .40 projectiles. I think it's time for me to try out lead. I'm pretty well stocked on primers and powders. At least enough to get me through the year.

On a side note... went to a range out in the Austin area last week and a box of 9mm cost $16.99 as opposed to $12.99 at GAT. They have plenty of it but you'll pay a damn premium for it.

What were you doing in Texas?
NEVER buy ammo at a range if you value your anal virginity.

We travel 22-26 days a month for work, we don't have the luxury of bringing ammunition with us on the random chance we have a free afternoon to hit the range.

If you ever make it to bike night again, ask me how bringing a loaded Glock 18 magazine through airport security worked out for me.

Aye, for about 6 months now. We have enough Marriott points to live in a Residence Inn until 2013.

I'll tell you the details in person, suffice it to say I was VERY glad to be a white guy with Glasses that day.

At this point, world class suck. On the other hand, being able to pay my mortgage in this economy is epic win.

Truth be told, I love my job. The traveling gets old but there are perks. We'll see how I feel about it when I miss all of riding season this year.

It's awesome for the first month or so. Being away from home so often really takes a toll on relationships and sanity though. We have seen and done some really cool shit though so I can't really complain. Hey at least Meech can't get on me for not having a job anymore right?

I didn't know you two girls worked together!

I'm just glad you have jobs honestly. I hate seeing friends start selling everything not nailed down to make mortgage/rent. I've been there myself too many times.

.45 is impossible to find. I picked up 5 WWB 100 value packs at Walmart a few weeks ago Sunday. Wiped them out of .45 another day too. I don't know how they have any room to put the .45's out with all the .40 they always have---and cheap, too. Federal .40 for $13.99!!! Glad I got a .40 instead of a 9.

I doubt you (or any of us) really care, but many towns and states have limits as to how much powder and primers you can store at your home. I think if it's all in your garage/workshop/shed outside your home, it's OK.

Just FYI.

I prob have about half what you have for .223, and enough for several thousand .40, and 9mm. I'm working on .45 and .50 AE now.

And some jack-ass has me thinking about .357 SIG again...even if he doesn't say "Thanks for the Info"!
