I'm really getting annoyed with Kimber!!!

I sent my 1911 in 3 weeks ago. I called today to check status of my weapon. Everytime I talk to them, they are extremely rude, the only answer I've gotten is it's with the gunsmith and it will be another 5 weeks for repair. It would be nice if someone could tell me what is wrong with it and what the resolution is going to be, How the fuck does it take 5 more weeks to fix an extraction issue that is happening with everyone of these guns. It's not like it's some big fucking mystery. throw a fuckin slide on it and send it back already. WTF is going on over there?

I had an issue with one of my Glocks once. They had it sent back to me with a new frame the same week. No cost to me.

Tony, are you dealing with Anne? I've heard stories about her being a one person wrecking crew of customer service.

See if you can find the number for the Kimber CS shop (though it's probably too late since they already have your pistol). I've been told if you can bypass the lovely lady of death, you'll find a kinder, gentler Kimber. LOL

Ok so I called Kimber today to get an update, Apparently they replaced the whole slide and it's waiting to be test fired.

When your dealing with kimber you take whatever positive info you can get. They set the bar very low. Kinda like the DMV or city hall

What's with having to replace the whole slide by the way? Is that a common fix for the issue you were having? I figured they would just replace the extractor, spring, smith it up a bit? I dunno.

Replacing parts instead of repairing them tells me maybe they don't have the in house skills and can make some money on the resale without looking inept.

Along with the Smithing cost maybe it's in your favor.

Custom labor is like 10 times more than taking a part off the shelve.

It's Kimber, they have the people with the know how. Why their customer service sucks, no idea. Not debating that. But saying they don'y have the peple in house with the skills....... come on.

And being Kimber, their a bussiness, so...... Why pull someone off the line who could be pulling in capitol dollars ( work they charge for ) for a repair that they don't know how long will take to repair? Cost effective measures would be replace an entire slide that cost them maybe $150. And you don't think Tony's slide will be used somewhere else? It will be canabilized, trust me. Anything salvagable on his slide will be. Take a tech making $X per hour, parts, test ammo and time, do the math. A swap is easier and more cost effective. Not the most customer 1st based solution BUT most cost effective.

Smithing should never be needed on a gun to make it function. It's insane ( Not you gus ) that a mfg thinks they can send a gun out into the world that requires tweaking just to make it run. A gunsmith is a tuner or builder of 1 off items OR a repair artist of damaged parts do to wear and tear. Lets not forget, these are machines and do have functional limits.

call Gunsmiths Reeves Calloway, Chip Foose or the certified Honda tech but notthe clean up crew for faulty mfg'ing.

It's a labor of love, sometimes it pays well other times it's the satisfaction of a job well done that makes it wrth it.

That's what i trying to say it's cheaper to replace than fix.these are mass produced items my guess is the slide cost them alot less then retail.

I'm also waiting to see what Slide comes on it. From what I've been reading on numerous forums, people who get a new slide are getting the Internal extractor model, instead of the original external

Re: I'm really getting annoyed with Kimber!!!

Kimber just called, let me say, John in the custom shop is sooooo much more professional than the jackass's who answer the phones over there.

My 45 is done, it has a new slide with the internal extractor and has new night sights as well as my Old ones were really dim. Said they put 6 magazines through it, with different types of ammo and it's working perfectly. Shipping out today, I can't wait to get her back.

Never could understand why they went with the external extractor in the first place. Kimber turned the 1911 industry (and 'smiths that were paid to make them work and add "needed" features..) around and then went and ruined what they had w/the Smith type extractor and rediculous series II safety.

Good luck w/the Kimber, I have yet to ever have an issue with my early pre-series II and she is as tight as the day I got her. If only all things were like that...
