Cerakoting?

Anyone here do any cerakoting or gun finishing for a reasonable price? Or know someone who can do it?

I just bought a Saiga and I'm planning on "restoring" it.

Thanks!

Cerakote is a just that, a ceramic coating on top of the metal. Dan Wesson's 2009 Valors and CCO's were coated with this and it's an OK finish, but will wear off because it is a coating.

There is also some other coatings/treatments available like Melonite or Ionite (sp?) that are better than the Cerakote and have better wear resistance. Cost is about $200-250.00.

There also a propietary treatment called Hart Hat. It is not a coating! It is a special treatment that actually makes the black color a part of the metal and has the best wear resistance of any process. It's done by a company called Severns Custom and cost about $350 for the whole gun. See here. https://severnscustom.com/Hard_Hat_Treatment.html

I am having this Hard Hat treatment done to my SS Dan Wesson Valor and should have it back on Tuesday.

Is this Saiga really worth refinishing? How bad is the current finish? I'd hesitate to throw a $200 refinish on a $500 rifle unless it meant something special to you or were REALLY jacked up. AKs are meant to shoot, not look pretty.

If it is worth it to you, Duracoat can be done on the cheap by yourself and in pretty much any color you can think of.

For a Siaga, Krylon is good enough.
