Sniper kills Qaeda-from 1 mi. away

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/interna...JNal3HgWlmEgRL

World record broken!

Craig Harrison killed the two insurgents from an astounding distance of 8,120 feet -- or 1.54 miles -- in Helmand Province last November firing an Accuracy International L11583 long-range rifle.

Wish I could learn to shoot like this!

I saw that on a Nat Geo special on Snipers. They tried to recreate the shot in Arizona and couldn't come close.

Excellent!

I noticed the article mentioned he was injured in the weeks that followed. I sure hope that whatever the extent of his injuries are, don't take away from his capability to shoot. This man truly has talent and skill!

The round he shot was only 8.59mm? What kind of case length is needed to propel a round that far? Or was it shot from a mountain top somewhere?

When I was 19, I did a guy in Laos from a thousand yards out. It was a rifle shot in high wind. Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot.

The Canadians and the Brits are always training together, both the shooters have their spotters for making shots like these. A sniping is actually team work.

I thought the Brits were too stodgy to allow that.

If you ever get the chance to drink with Brit military folks, especially Royal Marines, "stodgy" will never again seem like an apt description.
