chicago handgun ban...

Supreme court makes its final ruling tomorrow. Lets see if they overturn the ban and how Daily reacts if they do overturn it. Once the decision is made the law goes into effect immediately.

Why would we need registration cards? We already got these stupid ass foid cards so when you purchase a gun it gets registered through your foid to you. I also expect nothing but a HUGE tax comming on guns once this ban gets overturned.

What I heard is that he wants mandatory classes/training by plolice ($), registration and mainly "insurance" for each firearm. If that goes through then Chicago P.D. should insure their guns too (service and personal).

Daley's objective is a de facto ban. Expect this to go on for a long long time. As long as Daley. Is alive, he'll replace each ban that's struck down with another type of ban, and whens that's struck down, yet another

They're breaking new ground, legally speaking. They can't really just modify or refine existing case law. It's essentially an BoR incorporation case, but they haven't even fleshed out how the 2nd works at the Federal level, so how it's incorporated against the states, if at all, is a new ball of wax.

This case and Heller will be a new chapter in Con Law textbooks. Lower courts and lawyers are going to obsess over every single word in the opinion.

10AM tomorrow is the word. I can't wait to read the opinion.

Based on past rulings by Sup. Court if someone (Daley for example) plays that game then the city will end up back before a lower court and the term "reasonable" will emerge again. Is it reasonable for someone to pay 500 a year because they own a gun in Cook Co.? A "reasonable" person would likely state 'no'. It'll also be based on what other states are doing also.

I believe all people should be permitted to carry, but some guidelines should be in place to assist in reducing issues. No felons, mentally stable (no prior issues not take a mental stability test), an annual qualification, and IMO a SAFE must be in place when the weapon is going to be unattended at the owners home. The reason for the safe is simple. Something like 70%of all weapons used in crime are obtained ILLEGALLY to begin with. out of that 70% its something like 40-50% are obtained from home burglaries. So, you want to reduce guns from entering the street then secure them when not attended.

Then they had to correct it, because 234 years ago was under the Articles of Confederation, which was a failure. Wasn't quite as figured out as they thought.

The Bill of Rights was introduced in 1789, 221 years ago. And at that time, it was understood to be a limit on the Feds, so Chicago's handgun ban would be unaffected.

See, the problem with this, is that this is what will be abused.

Daley will say, "OK, the FED says you um...um...sub...um... suburbanites can have a gun...that's OK, um, that's the LAW no...even if I don't agree with it, cause it's going to turn our um...city...um, into the Wild West. So you need to get qualified annually, but um...only one range in the state is available for qualification, because, um...we just don't have the money for this kind of stuff."

So we wait on a 2 year waiting list for our annual qualification.

OH, and don't forget the safe. He would pull some bull about a Cook County tax on a gun safes, plus they need to be professionally installed by certified safe installers. Which you'll need to get a permit first. And it will have to be inspected by the official Cook County Gun Safe inspector. But due to cut backs they only have 3 people on staff to cover all of cook.

No, sorry, I don't feel like playing those games. While I would love to have some requirements to help keep weapons out of future Darwin Award Winner hands, I'm afraid of how those requirements would be used against us.

From what I read and heard, whatever Politburo - I mean City Council - committee will come up with something for Wednesday's full council meeting. And if anyone has ever listened to a council meeting live, the committee's recommendations becomes law unless someone requests a vote.

Aren't there supposed to be hearings on these ordinances?

True, but (as I think Rob said), this is huge in how it effects other decisions going forward. This is clearly a milestone decision that will be geeked over for years to come. (and a long time overdue)

Whats really sad is that this attitude is what we have all come to accept as the norm. due to this overbearing ruler we have in place. Freedom is not part of his agenda, whats best for Daley is his agenda, And we've come to accept that as something we cant change. If anything was proven today, it's that things can change, and for the better.
