Selling Glock, buying 1911, have ?s...
Selling my Glock 22 .40 back to the person I bought it from, for way more than I paid for it (don't ask), and plan on buying my first 1911. I wanna spend $600, maybe a little more. I understand that this is a very low number but it's what I'm getting for my Glock, I'm basically "trading" one for the other. Seeing as what I'm looking to spend is a low number, I don't wanna buy a piece of junk.
I know a lot of manufacturers make a 1911, but I'm not really sure which ones to stay away from. I'd love to get a nice SS Springfield if I can find one, but if not, my real question is..
Which brand of 1911 should I avoid like the plague? Any 1911 insight would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on buying local, otherwise I'd buy from gunbroker. Need asap, won't have a home protection pistol once I sell my glock tonight. Not putting my life in the hands of a little .22 that I have a handful of.

Stay away from the Colts. What you pay for in name does not equate to in quality.
besides, in that price range you'll only find dogs anyway.
At $600 I'd say save up a little, in the long run it will save you a tone of headaches. Coming to the table with $800 will put you in a completely diffrent tier of 1911 you wont ever regret.

You sure your not from the south side? I know "Bruthas" that don't go after that much shinny stuff on their guns.
Expect to pay that Cook county premium price tag. And knock that $600 budget outta the box. GB isnt all that great for deals either so don't get caught up with it. Lots of people post a skies the limit price thinking they will get balls and all.
Mistake #1, don't buy in haste. You will only screw yourself.

I wouldn't say I need asap, but I don't wanna see my collection get smaller and would like to stay protected at home (or wherever else cough cough). Planned on buying in Dupage actually to save some coin. Not trying to be hasty, hence the thread, just want to make an educated purchase. I figured 6 bills would be low so maybe I'll throw in a couple hundo extra to get a quality piece, but don't know enough about the 1911 to know any better.

Your not going to go worong with any name brand 1911
Para
Kimber
Springfield
Sig
S&W
shit even Taurus makes an OK 1911
All these brnds even in their intro level will over fully functional and combat accurate 1911's. From here you just need to figure out how much "upgrading" you wnat and can afford.

bought it new november of 2008 when they first came out. It came with straight 8 sights, this past year I put a novack rear sight (personal pref) on. I love the grips that are on it but I forget what they're called they were maybe $30 shipped. They're wood so classy and rubber so easy to grip. Maybe has 500 rounds threw it so barely broken in. Full 5" barrel and it is target accurate. It's killed many a paper targets. She comes on my late night early morning walks with me so she has a few miles on her but she's in excellent shape. My friend that was in the armed forces stripped it for me and cleaned it up not to long ago. At 30 yards I can shoot a 4 inch group, the guns more accurate than I am. at 7 yards paper targets quake with fear of impending penetration.

wat? it appreciated in value...
plus the grips really kick ass and that's what they were selling for new at gander mountain last week.
I didn't say I paid that for it.
I think it was like $425 after rebate.
love the gun and would have trouble parting with it for $700
it's that good.

Miller Custom.
I think you're on the right track with a Springfield Mil-Spec if you want to stay in that price range. You can find a Springfield Loaded for a wee bit more money and a used TRP for around $1,100.
I'm not a fan of Para 1911s, especially the double stacks and the ones with a double action trigger but the conventional ones aren't awful, you could do better for the price though.
Kimbers are fine but overpriced, look hard at Ponch's Series 1, like a Series 70 Colt, a little more pure. The SIS by Kimber is pretty badass too.
Springfields are excellent for the money and will treat you very well.
Nothing wrong with Smith or Sig 1911s but I HATE external extractors on 1911s. If it's not a slab side, it's not a real 1911.
I have finger fucked a PT1911 and was VERY impressed, especially for the money. Haven't shot one though and like any sub $1k gun, it has lots of MIM parts which bother me. Then again, you can always customize to get rid of MIM after you've owned the thing for a while.

besides I'm still waiting for ponch to hand down the verdict on which sniper rifle I should get. He said he didn't have time to give the topic the appropriate concern it necessitated so would do so later. To this date I haven't seen an update.
Could be another blonde moment though, so much shit has flown today I don't know which way is up.

I can give you some pointers on the latter of your problems though.
