Know anything about air rifles?

Getting my pops an air rifle for xmas, budget no more than 250.00. He will be using it for fun as well as keeping the possum and raccoons out of his back yard (he lives south of Kankakee). Has a nice collection in his safe, but this will be his first air driven firearm.

Any suggestions? And yeah, I know you need a FOID to get one in IL, so no online orders...

Walther Falcon Hunter

1000 fps single pump .22 cal pellet gun. I no longer have a golpher problem. It'll take down squirrels and racoons too. Great for residential sniping. It's done a great job the last two years but it does require an adult to pump it. Added layer of saftey because it's like 30-40 lbs to pump it.

I have an inexpensive air rifle that requires multiple pumps. But sometimes, it doesn't pump up right and doesn't shoot with the correct amount of pressure. Other times, it works correctly. Sounds like a personal problem, I know, but what could be wrong with it? It is oiled. Could a seal be damaged?

I think it is this model. http://www.crosman.com/airguns/rifles/pneumatic/2100B

BTW, I have had this model (with a backstop) for over 20 years and it shoots right everytime with very little maintenance.

Yes I'm full of hot air thanks. I spent many years through the late 80's and 90's

shooting Beeman and RWS.

My show off riffle is a R1 beeman 20cal Tyrolyin walnut Stock.Very nice riffle.$1K

If you want to hunt anything within reason and not worry about SEXY buy a model 52 side lever in 22cal. Big punch and heavy duty.Maybe $300.

I'm a little out of date with the newer stuff. My advice for a good work horse as low as possible in price look into the RWS48 plain Jane in 22cal .

I sure have enjoyed mine. Go for it spend a little extra and your son will inherit that same gun from you some day.

Anything over 700fps is shipping issues

You want spring piston. You should be able to get something decent for 250 at cabelas don't waste the money on a gammo they are basically junk You can get a Beeman for a touch more and worth it.

If you have a friend in Indiana they have no shipping restrictions. Not sure about Wisconsin, Michigan is bad too.

http://www.pyramydair.com/

They will tell you what you can ship. The Anshutz from CMP is great but it is PCP and you need a pump or scuba tank to fill it.

yeah I sighted my .22 cal air gun in on an inch and a half thick piece of wood and it was driving the pellets most of the way through.

A year later (this year) I finally got off my lazy but and bought a new mildot scope for my .22 Spent a 100 rounds shooting the center completely out of that board and dialing it in.

These single pump 1000 fps pellet guns are no joke. They COULD kill deer with a correctly placed shot.

que the new debate

YES, I know it's illegal in WI to kill deer with air guns. even though the barrel is like 30 inches long.

Know anything about air rifles?

You can get a .50 cal airgun. That will eliminate most varmints.

Due to harsh laws involving firearms in the UK, many farmers use these guys. Potent enough to kill a man with a lucky shot.

The thing about air guns that most people don't understand is the people that shot them.

I have spend a 100 weekends shooting and hunting with mine.I would not hesitate one second to challenge any one with their deer riffle in a walk though the woods and see who comes out with more game.

I've hunted dove ,rabbit, Squirrel, and killed a dozen full sized raccoons while in the garbage can.
In fact I've harvested 3 squirrel and two rabbits in one trip into the woods with out anybody knowing I was out there.

Imagine a clean bread basket shot on a squirrel while sitting at the base of ten oak trees never moving once and taking two more from the same seated position.
while hunting small game imagine the advantage of making close to NO report.

BIG FUN

It was a joke, I admittedly know jack shit about guns. If I were to hunt I'd use a bow and wear a loin cloth, because that's what the Nuge would want me to do.

and gus is why I still replied to you jokers. While hunting with the AR. I had a squirrel come up to within 4 ft of me because he was curiious. If I can pick deer off at 100 yards, what made the furry rodent think 20 ft is beyond me, but he received mercy from me.
