anyone own a gun, and or are in the military

Hi

I was just wondering how do i attain a gun in illinois. Or that gun card?

seems like crime is building up everywhere, and not too long ago, a lady had 2 guys break into her house and had her at gun point.
And this was at 830 pm.

What are the laws on using a gun in the house? Is it just used to defend yourself? Or will i be held accountable if i did kill someone?

And to the military people. I see a lot of vets and stuff who own military weapons. Im wondering how they attained those.
people with like m16s etc.... "ya man, i shot a few viet kong with this"

not like i want to get a machine gun. Just wondering how they get military weapons.

btw. on the firearm card. how do i attain one. a buddy of mine use to have one. And he said he use to go to the range back in the 80s. I would like to practice at the range near me.

you can goto your local sportmart or goto this link and follow the instructions.

http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/foidcardapp6-181.pdf

you only need a permit for a handgun and rifle.

you can buy a shotgun w/o one i think.

Yup just apply for your foid card. once you get that, any of the local gun shops can help ya.

If your going for home protection, you cant go wrong with a shot gun. Excellent stopping power and extremly easy to aim in a stressful situation.

You are accountable for every round that comes out of your gun. If someone breaks into your house and you shoot them, you will be charged with Murder/Manslaughter if your life was not in danger... meaning if you can retreat to another room and do not, you can be charged, unless you live in texas, then you can kill someone for stealing if they are on your property at night

Some do own true Pre ban M16 Full Auto but
Most people now own AR15 such as the bushmaster
www.bushmaster.com these are completely legal to own except in CA Same design w/o full auto

By Federal Law (since the 1930s) it takes a Class III license to own a full auto.
The Brady Law that "pre-ban" refers to forced manufacturers to alter the internal design of the trigger group so that it could not be illegally converted to selective fire (full-auto). Of course, it was always illegal for an owner to make it full-auto anyway. If you want to make a post-ban weapon full-auto, you could PROBABLY do it with extensive machine work, though, but it would be obvious to simple inspection, and you'd go to jail dang quick.
And anything on the civilian market is probably an AR-15 semi-auto. Only the military is allowed the full-auto M-16.

I seem to recall a Military Gun Act of 1792 ? which required all households to have a military rifle and ammunition for it. Our forefathers certainly did not have hunting on their minds.

Well, they probably had it on their minds but it is not the reason the "right to bear arms" was included in the Constitution. To believe otherwise is just plain silly.

Of course the thought that you could overthrow the government and the US military armed with nothing but rifles and shotguns is a bit on the silly side too.

There are a lot of opinions on the interpretation of the second amendment I'm sure and I'll leave that up to each of you. But the thought of "overthrowing" the government with rifles and shotguns MAY not be so far fetched. The military has to go along with the government in it's quest to squash a revolution. The more a country divides idealogically, the more the military itself becomes divided. I certainly hope we, as a nation, can come to some common agreement before our demagogic leaders permit this to happen and stand idly by while our nation divides and destructs.

The sole reason there are a lot of OPINIONS is because of people who want to take away your rights. It doesn't take much of a stretch, if you understand history of the founding of this nation, to understand that "militia" refers to every able-bodied man and that this militia could be called into action at any moment by whatever signal arranged by the local community to defend their land, families, resources, and country.

The whole idea is that to defeat the country you must not merely defeat the military, but defeat the citizens, AND that citizens must retain the right to excersize their "ownership" of the government.

The entire premise of the Constitution is that government serves the needs of the people and that the people retain the right to control the government to that end.

Yep, you can get an M16. But you still have to have a Class III license
