Ok I cant tell a lie. Its a road kill. A guy in front of me nailed it at night and I went back the following morning and took it. The antlers will look nice on the mantle, etc.

Unfortunately I didnt get any meat off of it because the coyotes had eaten the whole back half of the deer overnight. Youll notice in the pic that there is no back half to the deer. I actually had to chase a coyote off the deer as I was waiting for the Naperville PD to call me back. It was a big dog too !

Suuuurree wish you could hunt forest preserves.

So whats the deal with that. do you have to have the police blessing to pick up a buck like that if it was hit by something.

I was driving down I-55 the other day and saw a buck in the center of the median. a few hours later when driving back, the buck didnt have a head

I think you're supposed to get a deer tag from the state if ya want the deer. I don't know how that works with roadkill though. Maybe just a blessing from the local PD. Taxidermists want a tag though, because they are controlled by the state and can lose their license to operate if they're caught working on illegally gotten game. Better check it out.

If you find a road kill ( Ive taken a couple)you do not need a special tag but you should notify the local PD to let them know what youre doing. Eliminates sticky situations with passers by that support PETA. The local PD guy has always given me his name and badge # to use if anything arrises. Keep in mind an untagged deer could be perceived as poached.

The person that actully hits the deer has first dibs on it. If they dont want it they can appoint the person who they want to have it. If you stop at a road kill just be sure to say that the person who hit it said you could have it. No problems at all.

You are required to notify the IDNR if you take a road kill but Im guessing 98% of people do not. You are NOT required to notify them BEFORE taking the deer.

To answer your question- no tag or special permit needed.

and no you cannot hunt in Forest Preserves and most likely never will be able to. Ive been to meetings with the DNR and the bottom line is they dont care to take the chance of a wounded animal running around when the preserve is still open to the public with a ton of walking trails.

Its a PR nightmare waiting to happen if they allowed it.

I used to have a place on Marion Lake just east of Watersmeet, MI. Beautiful up there. Still have a lot of family there.

Crazy, theres plenty of places you can hunt in WI. Most the area around SE WI is shotgun/pistol/muzzleloader only. TO go rifle you have to go north of the Dells or west of Dane co. We hunt in Blackhawk State Park near Dodgeville (about 3.5 hrs from Chicago. 2hrs to janesville and 1.5 hrs to dodgeville). 3500 acres of woods, bluffs, fields and about 6 hunters

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

unfortunately you needed to apply for a special permit a looooooong time ago. Its the same at Des Plaines Conservation Area. Ive seen some of the biggest deer Ive ever seen in Des Plaines but that got to be such a rat race. a bit unsafe. OK a lot unsafe.

Have you ever seen a man actually try to catch a deer just by running after him? I have ...down there

I think I saw that deer by the side of the road but I can't remember exactly where I was going. I was thinking if I had 2 arms I would have grabbed it for the antlers. I got a roadkill a couple years ago. Just waited for the guy who hit it to drive away and threw it in my truck. A guy stopped while while I was dragging it and I thought I was busted. But he just asked if I needed a hand lifting it.
