Sig 716

http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProdu...rol-rifle.aspx

?

1 place I know of finally has it in stock for ~$1650+ shipping & ffl.

Would you pull the trigger? Seems like the best 308 AR for the buck.

I don't know what happened to the 20" DMR version... no longer on the sig site.

Have lots of DAG w/ ab22 round

That looks like a great machine for the money! I'd pull the trigger if I had the green.

Price seems good, but only $150 less than what they're going for online.

I'm sure it's a nice rifle, but I'd be concerned that a 16" barrel wouldn't take full advantage of that round. I'd need to look up ballistics but I have a feeling 18/20" would be better suited to a .308

Also, price out .308 these days - not cheap... like $0.50 per bang, if I'm going to spend that much, I want to take full advantage of the cartridge.

shooting my federal in my barrels...

20" - 2660 FPS
18" - 2630 FPS
16" - 2605 FPS

Advantage isn't that great for a 800 yard round for the 4" extra.... IMHO.

20" at 500 yards... -81"~
16" at 500 yards.... -85"~

I understand 4" is 4".... but... really it's only 4" at 500 yards...

EDIT: 168gr Federal Gold Medal Match

I have one of their 516 piston uppers. It has ran flawlessly for me. I'm not a Sig fan, in fact i dislike them, and their customer service. But that 516 has ran amazingly. I'll be getting one of theses 716's.

Yeah, those numbers are surprisingly great. Sounds like a good deal if you want an AR10.

Surprisingly.... made me recheck my numbers in my notebooks. They right. Searched the net real quick and worst numbers I can find comparing similar barrels/twist are people comparing m14 22" barrel and socom 16" barrels...

22" - 2537
16" - 2433

difference of ~8" at 500 yards. The chrony don't lie.

Seems like a solid shooter if you looking for AR10, only think i'll warn (same with most AR10s) is that parts are not interchangeable with others, the piston system makes it even more so. Sig is not the best at making parts available either, they are a pain in the ass to deal with.

Nice to know the velocity drop and bullet drop changes are not significant. 4" @ 500 is better than I can do anyway.
With it using the PMAGs, I wonder if it is "DPMS style" 308 and uses those style parts?

If I squeeze I'd probably then go for this scope:
