Price Check on SKS

I know almost nothing about SKS, but I was offered this in a trade deal for a guitar amp worth about $500 (that doesn't appear to be selling because a newer model came out):

" how about a real nice 1954 Sks Russian parade model, scope, sling, bayonet. This is not a typical SkS
This is a real nice piece, excellent shooter. The stock is really cool."

I've asked for more details and photos of course.

I wasn't really looking for an SKS, at least not one that sounds more like a collector than a shooter, but as I said; I know almost nothing about SKSs.

Thoughts?

Is it Chromed or hard blued?

Is there a letter R next to the date or a Square with a line through it anywhere on the stock?

Is it a KBI import?

Price range here is huge, anywhere from $250-2,000 depending.
Posting detailed pics will help.

Cool, thanks for those details Brian.

I have a feeling this SKS is about a $500 SKS if I could sell it on Gunbroker. But we'll know more once he gets back to me with specifics.

Does it have the original Ms Packman and Swordquest Waterworld?

if in good condition, or unfired - Russian parade SKS should bring at least $500 - I think they come with cherry stocks, chromed bolts and bolts carriers

no, he said scope - so if the receiver drilled for a side mount plank? or is the dust cover swapped to some aftermarker railed one? are all the serial numbers matching? A friend sold his unfired SKS like this for about $700 couple years ago. this scope thing makes me wonder...if it was butchered for the scope mount, it would not cost nearly that much

FWIW, Parade means all chromed, if any metal on it is not, it was done aftermarket and worth as much as any SKS. The R or square w/line means re-arsenaled ($100 less-ish).

KBI brought some in a few years ago, still worth $400-450ish, if not KBI and real parade then it's worth some serious cheese. Will have more this weekend. Cheers.

Not looking good for this SKS.

Eric, hard blued, the scope is not an original, it is an inexpensive yet effective piece. It was on the gun when I purchased it 5 or 6 years ago. I am at work now. I cannot answer your other questions until later. I know for sure it is a Russian rifle. I thought it was a 1954 production. The reason it is so like brand new is because it was a parade model. I have probably put maybe 200 Rds.through it since I have owned it. It has always been broke down and cleaned whenever I shot it. It is a very nice like new gun. I think the stock is called Beechwood, but I am not sure it is not a typical SkS stock . 7.62 x 39
