Man, 65, kills teen who knocks him off bicycle

Not sure if I should put this here, politics, or the sports/cyclists corner.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46143485.../#.TyH4Q1y84zE

Quote:
A 65-year-old man who was knocked off his bicycle by three teenagers on a Pennsylvania trail shot two of them, killing one, police said according to reports.
The Reading Eagle newspaper said the wounded teen, 16, was taken to hospital and the third, age 15, was taken in for questioning and was later sent to a youth center.
The paper said the mother of the slain boy, 16, asked officials not to release his name until she had been able to tell other members of the family what happened.
The incident happened on the Thun Trail near a bridge over the Schuylkill River, between Reading and West Reading around noon Wednesday. According to WGAL.com, police said the boys knocked the man off his bicycle in an apparent robbery attempt.
"There was one juvenile who was shot and is deceased [and] another juvenile who was shot and is in surgery," Police Chief Jed Habecker said, according to a report by the WFMZ-TV station.
According to police, the 65-year-old was riding his bicycle when the teens knocked him to the ground, the station said.
Police said two teens then assaulted the man, who drew his gun and shot them.
The man was released by police after they consulted with District Attorney John Adams late Wednesday, WFMZ reported.

Love how the newspaper wrote the headline as if the man was nuts and killed an innocent teenager.

The teens just happened to bump the old guy on the bike, causing him to fall off. Then the guy proceeded to shoot and kill the teen.

The first story is by MSN. MSN is known to be slanted to a liberal agenda and anti gun. In the bottom of the story they acknowledge that the 65 year old was being assaulted but no mention that it was a robbery attempt. It's possible that all of the details were not known at the time. So the headline could have been an attempt to draw readers in or a blantant attempt to support their agenda.

Headlines are intentionally sensational, to attract attention to the story. Very often, they aren't factual.

That headline so pisses me off. When I read it, I thought some old man went nuts and popped a cap in some poor kids ass. Then you read up and he was robbed at a crunch point on the trail. Big difference.

I'm glad they are letting him go. It's rough to have shot a kid. Usually I'm all gung-ho about CCW, but actually having to kill a kid and put another in the hospital is rough.

That said, if he feared for his life, I guess he did what he had to do. Good for him.

good for him. I wonder how he would have defended himself if that occurred on an Illinois trail?

But in IL HE would be going to jail and the "innocent" kids will just be sent home with a happy meal.

Change that to: going to their lawyer to sue the spandex off him.
