Colt Competition Rifles

They opened a site for factory built rifles. Magpul, Badger, Hogue... Wonder if you could beat the prices building it? They do test and the guns are required to fire a three shot group under an inch at 100 yards minimum.

The Hogue hand guard on the expert version is pretty cool.

The barrel on the Pro is pretty weird as well. I like the proof card they send with the gun...and it says it was done with Hornady Steel(!), which gives me a little more respect for those rounds.

I don't know much about ARs, but from window shopping, I thought 1 in 8 was odd. Usually 1in 7 or 9?

And I missed the card. That's pretty tits...

I take it this is aimed at 3-gun/competition shooting? Like "match" or above?

Yeah, exactly. Speed, precision, decent reliability. Not something you could drag through the the sand and expect to work later like a duty rifle.

And guessing the .223 chamber pretty much would rule out throwing all kinds of crap 5.56 down the barrel too? It'll be cool to see if these take off and people start hand loading for accuracy what it'll turn in.

Wrong... straight from the specs:

.223 Wylde chamber accepts SAAMI-spec .223 ammo and NATO-stamped 5.56x45mm ammo

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.223_Remington

Quote:
To address (the issues of .223 vs 5.56 differences), various proprietary chambers exist, such as the Wylde chamber (Bill Wylde)[8] or the ArmaLite chamber, which are designed to handle both 5.56mm NATO and .223 Remington equally well.

Yeah, missed that... Just went off the specs instead of standard tab. Specs tab lists .223. Rem. Weird...

I just got some info on the Colt LE901-16S and it looks to be a game changer. It can shoot either 5.56 or 7.62X51! If this becomes avalible for civilians it will be a hot seller.

They announced a civvy "hunting" version, the SP901, at last year's SHOT Show, but have been sitting on it since. Cursory Googling indicates that it was supposed to drop around now.

They don't specify, but I believe the mag well changes out by sliding it up once the upper is off. I have seen this with other lowers as well.

Ok I found a nice video that shows how it works. If you could aquire the 5.56 mag well insert, any upper should work. This makes the possibilities endless for this rifle. I am going to have to seriously think about one of these.
