Ruger 10/22 Takedown

It just happens that we were thinking about a Henry survivor rifle for an inexpensive backpacking 22LR, and Ruger comes out with this:

I'm suprised they didn't do this 20 years ago. It will be heavier than a Henry, but it will be considerably more accurate, plenty of parts available, and I'm quite familiar with it.

MSRP appears to be about $380 though. Seems steep, unless street price is $280. I'd buy a takedown all weather 10/22 for $280.

I still haven't bought the 22, this looks really tempting... My BX just started selling weapons, and said they can order anything that's out there. Going to have to see if/how much they can get it for.

Still, the Henry fills a very specific purpose better than almost anything else. At $225 for a true survival rifle that is crazy small and portable it is hard to beat. The Ruger is going to take up a lot more space and need some sort of case/bag. That doesn't mean the Ruger isn't really neat. I see it as more of a crossover.

I agree with that. It suits my needs a little better than the Henry.

Push come to shove, if I was only getting one I'd probably go with the Ruger too. It's so much nicer to shoot and you can add optics.

Ricky laughs at this thread, and survival guns in general, especially in Chicagolalalaland. I might be able to use one in the plane, but a flare gun and a 45 seems good enough, I will spend more time surviving the emergency put down. Cool factors in guns have a real low priority for me.

My friend has one of these, the quality is not like a ruger, but it is a fun gun that is quite accurate and it weighs hardly anything. If I recall it was cheap too.

Words I like hearing together....accurate and cheap I am absolutely blown away with the grouping my wife is getting with her Marlin (it was MINE! She took it ) yes the finish of it is not that of a Ruger, but who cares? The thing is a tack driver in the right hands.
