Just something to remind us of the purpose of the Bill of Rights on this sweltering Friday.
While we often times claim only self-protection against criminals to exercise our second amendment rights, the context in which Madison wrote the Bill of Rights is often forgotten. Americans had been fighting an oppressive battle for years against the British and some states felt that The Constitution did not contain sufficient wording to protect the rights of the individual against a possible tyrannical government. In times of "peace and safety" the true intent is lost and so many people choose to legislate instead of educate. I urge especially those that favor amending the second amendment to carefully consider relinquishing your rights in favor of perceived safety.
Illinois continues to illegally restrict our rights "to keep AND bear arms" while the same lawmakers who legislated your rights away are EXEMPT from the very laws they created and freely protect themselves with armed guards and the ability to carry if they so choose. What will they take from you next?
