ASC membership

How do those of you that are members like it?
Do you plan to renew?
Did they lower the dues? I thought I remembered it being more in the past.

Is there a range for practicing shotgun with buckshot and slugs?
I read the patterning board rules and it said no more than 2 rounds in the shotgun; is that just for the patterning board?

I'm not sure on the pricing, I try not to look at it till I have to pay it in February. Check the web page for that.

I do plan on renewing as there isn't anything else like it within an hours drive of me.

I do believe they lowered the dues a little, but that may only be for existing members; again, check the page.

There is a range for shotgun. In fact, there are two ranges that typically have no backstops or bare backstops so you can set them up how you like. I've set them up for tactical shotgun practice a couple times...I need to do it again soon in fact.

I am thinking of joining this winter.

BTW, about that tactical shotgun/rifle/handgun - how about we set it up for September 1st?

can I be your guest?

Sounds like it's time for Fire and I to put together another shoot.

We've not done anything as intense as a proper practical rifle event with multiple stages...we just don't have that much equipment and would need to reserve the space. But we can pretty easily take over one of the empty ranges and setup our own little practice for just us and some friends - changing the setup every hour or so to practice different skillz.

We'll talk it over and come up with something. Since I'm no longer in the woods with my illness, and gimpy is at least walking now - we have a lot of projects (like the damn reloading class we keep having to push back) to roll out ASAP.

I have 3 steel 8" gongs I can contribute - I will just have to build frames for them, as the frames I built were left in WI location where we used them

they are 3/8 AR500 steel that can hold up to .308

That's exactly what I wanted to do with the shotgun. Wasn't sure if it was possible. Let me know when you plan on doing this. I was going to pick up some 45% and 25% IPSC ar500 plates; do they let you set up steel on your own?

I've already done the range safety check and interview, guess I'll head over to the orientation today and pay up.

They keep flip flopping on the rules - last I heard, you can use manufactured (not home made) steels, and they need to be within 5 feet of the berm. Careful though, the old timers grumble about the dangers of ricochets - bla bla bla.

I typically don't get hassled since I don't play stupid and stay mostly within the rules.

HTFU! if its the right leg we can tie our legs together like a three legged race and assault the course as such.

yup, we can use these as long as they are placed out "5" feet away from the berm, any closer and we have to use paper target silouttes, etc.

I have been prepping more so we can do the reloading class shortly so anticipate that around the corner and then me and raven can setup a fun shoot day.

and to the OP, yes I will DEF be renewing. We definitely get our monies worth there.

I thought the ASC was expensive, works out to $27 a month, plus assessments and initiation on top of that. The JHCC family membership was a $100 for the year, and the rifle ranges are under cover, you can shoot in any kind of weather. Pistol, 22, shotgun and archery ranges are nice too. The 22 range has reactive targets out to 100 yards. Sand bags and bench rests are provided, target stands, targets and staple guns are provided, they do ask for a small donation for the targets, I throw a buck in the jar every time I go.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.
