Cheaperthandirt.com no longer sells firearms

I don't know what prompted this, but pulled up a random gun on their site and got this message on the page.

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/60711

Anyone know why?

Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories.

It's just a bunch of people being pissy on a facebook page ranting together. you're not missing much.

I do agree with them. Its in poor timing for them to change directions. They could have waited to do it later.

side note, go to their facebook wall, watch the likes they have and then hit refresh, its dropping by the second. kinda funny to see.

Confused you think it's right to cancel people's orders and charge them their so called new market price. $60 for 1 pmag. People spent money there and their orders cancelled including mine. Nice to get an email about your $11 mag being cancelled and not if you would like to purchase its $60. Be real. You couldn't do that with your business or you would be out of buisness

Cheaper than dirt released this today.

Cheaper Than Dirt! recently announced that it was temporarily suspending online sales of firearms pending a review of its order processing and procedures. Well-known for its ability to process and ship orders within 24 hours, online sales have skyrocketed to a point where it may take up to 72 hours for firearms and other items to ship.

"In light of recent events, we believe it is prudent to review our policies and procedures to ensure we can continue to provide the products and firearms our customers demand," said Chief Operations Officer Roberta Wilson. "We will resume online sales once we update our process and continue as we have always done by shipping firearms only to FFL dealers."

Ms. Wilson closed with, "As a long-time supporter of the Second Amendment, we will continue to serve the needs of the firearms community while ensuring our unsurpassed level of quality and customer service."

Did they really do that...? If so...SUPER bogus!!

I totally understand the run on PMAGS and the fact they're selling out everywhere...but to cancel an existing order to price gouge is insanely unacceptable.

The big question is "WHO" is throttling the production? My guess is that the gun manufactures are ready and willing to produce a shit load more guns quickly..................

Semi, the process takes time sadly. You can rush a product in tiny volume in a few days. But when you deal with bulk production it extends the timeline greatly.

some shared components are manufactured from the same factory so then that can hold up some components.

And the fun part is what do you do if you put in an order for production and then the AWB passes and then you have a product you can no longer sell and now have to destroy.

Prices shot up for existing product beause replacements have an unknown ETA.

I saw today Magpul is only making the Black pmags inorder to catchup on the demand and only taking Backorders for these. Other colors will have to come later. Think that was on Magpuls website, but I did a lot of looking today and not 100% on this.

I don't know if my mentality is right but if everyone is buying these guys at high prices. Once the demand is met and they don't sell anymore wont the prices just come down cheaper than they were?...

New items may no longer be legal. I'm more interested in class 3 items, so all of those are used anyways. And the cost is really outrageous of those. The average M4 full auto is $17-25 thousand.

Part of the reason they aren't taking anymore orders is this....

Lets say you order 20 AR's as a dealer and pay for them.....Armalite produces them and right after production the gov't says they are illegal by passing legislation....

Armalite is now stuck with 20 guns for one dealer compounded by a bazillion other dealers orders with inventory that they can't sell and will be forced to destroy and eat the cost of thousands of firearms.

I'm guessing they are waiting to see if any gun laws are passed in the short term until they ramp up more production.
