1st time shooting WOOT!!!!

My son, Matt and I went to OnTarget in Crystal Lake for an intro lesson and range time. THis was the first time either of us has ever shot anything. We were using one of the shops AR15's. 20 shots each at 25 yards and 50 yards.

We had an excellent time. The smile on his face was ear to ear. Ok mine was too. Very nice facility and very busy.

Here are the targets. Matt only had a couple misses. Mine turned out much better than I had expected by far.

Matt at 25 yards

Matt at 50 yards

Pete (Champ91) at 25 yards

Pete (Champ91) at 50 yards

At your size, you can probably conceal and carry an AR.

How much was the intro class there? Keep seeing the Intro to handguns classes at Cabelas and wondering if it's worthwhile.

At his size he doesn't need to carry.

lol at my size Im just an easy target. Even a blind man could shoot me.

Due to my 2nd shift schedule I had to do private lessons. $100 / hour for 2 hours. That was the total for me and Matt. Also had to pay for the ammo.

Their regulare 4 hour classes are $150 each. 3 hours class 1 hour shoot. But it would not have been as much 1 on 1 thus the 3 hour class.

Yea right. Can't blame me! it's not until you visit my place and THEN you can start blaming me for all toy expenditures. I like to have the new toys so folks can fidget with them and see what they like.

Looking at your target, looks like you've got the fundamentals down well. Vertical stringing like that can be as simple as working on your breathing, or building up your strength in your shoulders (if you were standing AKA Offhand).

Target shooting is fun. It's nice to see the AR in a non-assault weapon view.

Awesome! I would love to do this with my kids.

Can anyone recommend something like this (youth training) in the southwest/south suburbs. Crystal Lake is a hike for me. I see plenty of gun ranges, but none that offer rifle training.

We shot off a bench while sitting. Forward rest. On the 50 yard, that vertical string at the top was the 1st 10 rounds. 2nd 10 rounds I tried to aim lower to bring it down. That worked but got more side to side.
