How many rounds of ammo?

Just a discussion question: How many rounds do you like to keep on hand of each caliber you own?

I try and keep 2-3k for the 9mm pistols, and about 500-1k for the rifles. Shotguns, I'm a little lacking, but I try for 250-500 of those as well. I will have all my brothers rifles in March, and he has two M1 Garands with "a lot" of ammo cans, according to my mom.

It depends on the guns purpose.

My pistol calibers I typically have 250-500 loaded and ready, with components to make another few thousand more. Except the Desert Eagle where I keep 50-100 around.

For AR, I keep as many on hand as I can afford; same goes for components to roll my own. Currently several thousand.

For precision .308 only 50-100 because I spend about 10 minutes making each round. I don't own an AR-10 (or the like) at this time, so no bulk stock.

Shotgun, since I have 2 pumps and a SAIGA 12, I keep about 250-500 for target, and 100 or so buck and slug around. I'm working on making my own slugs and shot now from lead wheel weights, so I should be set for a long time.

Vintage military rifles like the SKS and Mosin Nagant, I keep about 1000 around in each caliber. Typically a case of 880, plus some brass cased hollowpoints for "hunting".

I'm not sure how much total I have loaded in stock, but I had to buy a metal cabinet to store it all, not including my reloading components which have their own cabinet.

Edit - Oh shit, I forgot about 22LR I have about 5500 22LR in bulk boxes for plinking, then I have a 500ct Target Match for tournaments, plus several dozen 50rd boxes of various match brands to test to see what works best in whatever rifle I'm testing/sighting in.

Most survivalist/prepper types suggest having 1000 in each major caliber on hand. That's just SHTF stuff...I'm betting most of those guys don't actually *practice*. My practicing is why I have trouble keeping more than a couple hundred pistol rounds handy at one time.

For times like this that ammo prices are through the roof, if you can find them at all. I shoot a few times a month, so it adds up pretty quick.
