FFL question

Ken, Ducman...you guys must know this.

How does it work when you buy a gun online and they send it to your selected FFL dealer?

What does this mean and how does it work? Im looking at something in Springfield and dont necessarily feel like driving that far for it.

they usually charge you anywhere from 10-25% or if it doesnt make like so much of there minimum charge, they charge you that, usually 100.00 and up most of the time.

but call the dealer your thinking of having it sent to and get all that info 1st, and dude, S.A. is only like 2-3 hours if that..more like 2

S.A. as in Springfield Armory?

Im talking about Springfield, IL. Too far to drive for a $300 piece of equipment. Ill just spend a little more and buy around here but this seems like a VERY good price on a decent toy.

and would Mega be the best FFL around us or the Gun Shop on Rt. 30?

a friend of mine buys alot of gun online and the local dealers around my area charge between 25-50 bucks for paper processing (the FFL doing the paperwork does the background check and the ATF form)

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

Basically you go to a dealer and ask them for a copy of their FFL. Then you send the copy to the dealer you are buying from. The dealer ships it to your dealer. Then you complete the necessary paperwork with your dealer and pay whatever his fee is.

From a private party the FFL will need the seller's foid info. By the sounds of it you might just take a day trip and avoid the ATF paperwork because all you need is your FOID & cash for pvt party trx.

Mike,

Louise, the guy we were shooting with at Buffalo is a Dealer. He might be able to take care of this for you and have it for pickup within 15 minutes of you

However....it may not be illegal for you to take it back in pieces. Maybe make a couple of trips to really cover your bases

If your buying it from a person, not a business, I would go pick it up myself for a couple reason, TO REALLY inspect the firearm!
Then if I do want it buy it right from him, all ya need is a bill of sale stating who is selling, and the firearm and ser# and to the buyers names and F. O. I. D. card #, AND SIGNATURES (i forgot that part...its hard to put everything down when your not actually doing it..lol) and that's it.

Simple as pie don't have to deal with having a FFL business hold it for the time and or run the paper work, you don't have to register every firearm. Its not illegal from what I know, you just maintain your paperwork for 7-10 years.

now if you dont want to go pick it up, and the seller is selling a firearm, they need to ship it to a FFL owner to conduct the proper rules accoring to the book.

Private parties who both reside in Illinois usually meet and write out a bill of sale then make the transaction. Bill of sale should have the FOID card numbers and signatures of both parties. When you start shipping weapons a lot of carriers don't even want to ship them. I think UPS is one of the only places that ship firearms and it has to be overnight shipping. Now maybe sending a firearm in separate pieces may be the way to go depending on the size (check out the legality!). I looked into the law about shipping between two private parties to complete a transaction and could not find anything. That doesn't mean it is legal. I asked an FFL and transactions between individual parties should be made in person.
