Ok what caliber should I get

I am mainly looking at remington and savage rifles as we already determined in my other thread. now my question is, they are giving me waaaay to many options on caliber. I will be using the rifle for deer hunting, long range target shooting etc.

what do you guys suggest. I know Kens all for 308 crazy says 30-06, I;m sure others will say something else. just please let me know what and what the disadvantages or advantages are to your pick.

270 Win., 30-06 Spfld., 7mm Rem. Mag., 300 Win. Mag., 338 Win. Mag, 223 Rem., 22-250 Rem., 243 Win., 308 Win., 270 WSM., 7mm WSM., 300 WSM.

.270

Less kick than the .30 cal rounds
Flatter shooting
plenty of knockdown power
ammo readily available
can take down anything in N America short of dangerous game / grizzly

if JR's will let you shoot it inside-you can borrow mine to see if you like it

IMO you can't go wrong with a 30 .06. Heavy enough round that the wind doesn't make much effect on it and practical enough to do all sorts of hunting. I know Ken would go 308, I honestly lack much experience with it but from what I understand it's pretty similar to a 30 .06

Ya, I know, problem is I'm actually confused on the differences between them all. Wanna make sure I dont get one and then wish I had gotten another in a month. Know what I mean?

Put it this way,

If you get a 30+ you'll regret it when you go to the range and spend the $$$$ on ammo. If you get less like a .223 or something you'll regret it when your out on a hunt and take a 75 yard shot and missed by 6 inches cause the wind took it. You decide which you would rather.

That makes sence. Also think about my personality. I ride a busa and dont think its enough power. I'm not a person that rides a 600 and thinks it's plenty for the street.

Can I get a round with a nuclear war head on the end? That should do it

Tony,

Do what Ken would do......get one of each And we all know he would, if he wasn't scared of what his wife would say

I voted 30.06, although the 270 is a nice round, so is the .308. Tough decision

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

It's better than 30.06 for target, but still packs a punch.
The big Mags are just too expensive for target and you don't need the distance for most hunting.
