i wouldnt mind trying it, but i would like to go where we know the birds are at, like the last place you guys went, too.

mike ya gotta play around with the photos when ya look at them, like sharpen, etc...like the pic i did, i over sharpened it.

also too you think you can repost that pic as a JPG file, that way i can save the pic to my hard drive? you got as ART or BIT and for some reason those dont like to be saved and ya cant open them, or atleast the way i do here...if not...no biggy.

Well, I had a great time, I always do when I'm in the field with good company I think what made my day was my long shot I really prefer the crossing shots like that. Kelly's downing two birds with a single shot was pretty damn cool I was surprised by Diamond driving that chukar straight at me, I kept thinking, "fly you damn bird" but it ran up to me and Diamond snatched the bird. The cover was sparse so all the birds ran from us and the ones we missed were mainly in the woods. My opinion of this place was maybe it would be better earlier in the season, with heavier cover to hold the birds, and they should release mature birds, the birds seemed very small compared to the last place. Thanks to Mike for setting it up Hopefully we can hunt one more time.

I will defininetly stop down there and take a peek, most likly not this week since I'll be in springfield, but next week I'll check it out.

Hey mike, Let me play with your camera, Somewhere in there you havew a setting thats screwed up. It shouldnt be adding that bluish thint to all the pics.

well just called mossberg, and for my 9 shot 590DA there are no other barrels for that shot gun, just the 20 inch.

so at this point, i dont know what kind of shotgun to buy, lenth, up to what shell lenth or what not.

i am thinking a 24inch barrel, 12g able to handle up tp 3 1/2 inch loads would be ideal with chokes ofcourse..but like i said, i am not an expert on this, and ofcourse i think i would get a semi auto too.

any good advise?

its a broad question Ken

Whats your price range? Pump is MUCH cheaper than an autoloader.

If youre using this for only casual bird hunting from time to time.. I would get another Moss 500 pump. To me it just seems to make more sense having the top safety than a trigger gaurd safety. I would go with a 26" barrel and Accu-choke obviously. You can get this gun for around $229 or so.

Im buying Brad a Bantam 20ga. Mossberg pump for his Birthday next month.

I finally took a few minutes today and wrote an email to the club manager about what we thought of our hunting trip.

This is a copy/paste of it

_____________

Jason, I wanted to follow up on the 1/2 day hunt that we spent with you on 1/24.

I feel I have to be honest as I'd be kicking myself if I wasn't. It seems as though your cover is very sparse in the sorgum strips. In our opinion, it caused the birds to run and run and run and end up in the woodlots or treelines. There just didnt seem to be anywhere for them to hide and hold tight even if they wanted to. We had 2 groups, my group with my Golden found about 2/3's of the birds but the other group of 3 guys only found 7 of the 12. You and I talked about using a dog and handler with that group. I wasn't with them but they tell me that the lab did really want to hunt or just didnt seem to have any interest in finding birds. It really sounds like a very inexperienced dog is what they got. If we paid for a dog we assumed that it would be a well trained dog. I stood behind some guys at the desk inside who booked a dog and handler on the spot. Perhaps you overbooked your handlers and used someone that normally doesnt guide? You had said that you would guide us with your Spaniel. The 3 guys ended up chasing most birds themselves to either ground swat them or get them up as they seemd to run forever for them also.

Also, I have hunted several other farms this past Fall and Winter and your birds just seemed very small and immature, almost 1/2 the size of other places. They didnt seem to fly very well and didn't have any tails either.

I know this may come across as nothing but bitching but I felt that I should let you know how we all felt.

Perhaps things will change and we'll cross paths in the future.

Thanks for reading this.

Mike Cooke

I cant believe Im even responding to that ridiculous statement...

There isnt such thing as a dumb dog...they do what theyve been trained to do. If they havent been trained then its not their fault..

You better hope they dont follow that procedure in your workplace If you dont know 100% what youre doing when you walk through the door they shoot you ! !

The response from the club manager:

Mike, I am very sorry that your hunt was of poor quality, I will make sure that the guide you had will not be used again. This being our first year is the only excuse I can use. I recognize all of the problems you have. All of them I plan to fix in the next season, we have learned so much this year and plan to improve it all.

Thanks for letting me know!

This is thier first year? No wonder the birds were so small. I think that place could be cool if they could get it worked out. But they definitly got some work to do.
