I just took the CCW class and sent my info to the ISP via their website. I was able to take the 8 hour course because of my prior military service. I just showed them my DD214. It was mostly lecture and videos. The shooting part was pretty easy if you have kept up on your range skills.

How was the class? Any challenge or if you have a brain between your ears and handled a gun before it should be basic?

Class was simple - need to make 21 rounds out of 30 into a huge target. Basically, if you fail that test you shouldn't own a gun.

Other than that there isn't any written exam or anything. Just listening to lectures on use, holsters, and everything in-between.

Any out of a holster shooting or instruction? As far as cost, it's about $500 for the whole deal, class permit , prints, etc ?

No out of holster training. I paid 100 per 8hr, 150 for the state, and 40 for finger print service. So under $500.

Five year renewal will be $50 but it looks like they want you to complete another 4hr at this point. That might change though.

Just a heads up, the finger prints aren't required. With finger prints supposedly takes about 90 days to process, without finger prints takes up to 120 days, but thats an option if you want to keep the expense down.

Mine was $140 for the class (already have my Utah CCW, so that gave me 4 hours credit), and the $150 to the state, so under $300 for me. My class was entirely out of holster training. Took mine from MMI Guns in Minooka, IL. Brian the instructor/owner is great.
