i think i am gonna get a 454 casul instead of a 480

Much more powerful, and hold more FPS and FTpounds at 50Y from the ballistics I can find over a 480, I am sure the 500 is a touch more but almost x2 the price, PLUS I have a bad feeling the S&W500 will be short lived for some reason?

Anyway, so now I am thinking 454 casul in the ruger super red hawk.

Well, the 480 was designed to be one step behing the 454 and 2 ahead of the 44mag.
Either way you go you get a gun that shoots two diffrent loads. The 454 will also shoot the 45 long colt and the 480 will shoot the massive 475 Linebaugh. If you want power the 480 loaded with 475 is the way to go. The down side is if you want 475 you either better be reloading or be willing to shell out big money.
The 454 is a good gun and over rated as far as muzzle flip and recoil. If you are a seasoned handgunner it is no problem. I get a better work out from my DE in 50. Also ever since taurus made the first "commercial" 454 the ammo is redily available. Either way if hunting is what your looking to do either one is good and the Ruger platform is by far one of the strongest.
I'll stick to the 500 for now... till the next big thing comes along

Russina Boar? As in pack a big ass pistol, fly out to Russia or Eastern Europe and blow away a hairy pig?

I don't know if it's still there, but I used to fly hunters down to a place in Clinton, IL. to go boar hunting. I went on a turkey shoot with them once and ran agross one of the boars in the wild. They are BIG, mean lookin' suckers and sound like a fifty gallon drum snorting. I only had a .22 on me. I wished I had a hand cannon.
