cant seem to make up my mind between 480 or 454 casull

480 bigger 454 casull smaller but less bullet drop, and more inpact....but just like anything might over penitrate, but 480 bigger hole more stopping power.

cant seem to make up my mind, but ballistic damage wise...over all i am thinking 480.

thos gun will be mainly for russian bore or bore there of.

less bullet drop? gravity is a constant. Do you mean one has more velocity and so falls less in a given distance?

yep, less bullet drop is a faster explimation of higher velocity round which it drops less from 0 then another lower velocity round "from what ever sight in you have it at, without explain it all, common shooters knows what that means...and now you know

"less bullet drop per given distance"

Ok, sure, but its not a long gun. I would assume that everything you will be shooting with this will be under 100 or 75 yards. So your balistic drop shouldnt really be much of a factor.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

give me some weights and speeds and I will tell you exactly what has a greater KO factor.

If your looking for KO power then go with the .480, you can also load 475 Linebaugh for it. The RUGER is a well built gun but I managed to blow one up with a MAXXXEEDDDD out .475 handload. OUUUCCHHHHHHHHHHHH.

If you compare a
1).480 325gr bullet at 1350 FPS you get 1314 Foot pounds of energy at the muzzle and a KO factor of 30.

2).454 300gr bullet at 1625 FPS you get 1758 foot pounds at the muzzle and a KO factor of 31.

.454 edges out the .480, but in a .454 you can only shoot .45 long colt as an option which will be a lower KO #.
The 480 will allow you shoot the .475 which will get you a 400gr bullet going 1450 fps. 1867 foot pounds of energy and a KO of 39.

.480 33% less energy than .454
.454 REFRENCE POINT
.475 15% more than .454

Arrogance has to be earned.

KO info.

As far as 50 yard info, its relative to the velocity. So ya the faster the less drop.
Handgun hunting your lucky if you get off a 75 yard shot.

ahh i got you..well basicly the larger the projectile, the more trama the more damage the bullet will cause, giving you a KO affect, but honestly thats only relitive to the body parts it hits, in any animal.

shooting the muscle in the leg with a 230 grain bullet and shooting the central nervouse system will cause in affect relate to your hit zone, sure overly shown for pratical purposuse but it gets the point accross with the misconception of bigger/higherspeeds is always better which only plays a part in trama, but more important is PLACEMENT.

alot of people think,...oh yeah...44magnum....is like hitting someone with a basballe bat...NOT TRUE if it was...you would also feel that baseball bat when shooting it.

Just to drop my .02, I have a Casull and have shot bear, moose, caribou, and a person. it has great power, is stable to shoot with one hand, and is comfortable.

Shot 2 brown bear. One at 12 feet and the other as 2 feet. the one at 2 feet lost the top of his skull and all lower jaw.

The person lived, but not happily.
