FiRe's P30 first time to the range.

Literally, so guys dont be too harsh

First time I have ever shot a handgun so just getting into the sport!

I will let it begin!

The Yellow dots signify the first magazine shot out of two on one sheet.

So I spent 2.5 hrs at the range today shooting winchester 115grain and 10 winchester 147 grains.

All shot at 15 ft except for the one sheet that I did at 50 ft.

So on with the Range report!

Just kidding! this was my buddies XD at work, he locked up twice.

I suck.

I need to get back to the range asap.

Shooting is like riding- takes much practice to get good, and you will only get better with practice.

Don't bother loading the magazine to capacity. You are not helping anything. Five shot strings are fine. Load the magazine to 15 and you may find yourself concentrating more on emptying the magazine than your shot placement.

This may be of some help:

Not bad for your first time shooting a handgun! That's better than I did my first time shooting a centerfire handgun. What's up with your buddy's XD!? I've never had any problems with mine. Tell him to check out xdtalk.com, maybe they can help him get it sorted out.

Off topic: I haven't forgotten about getting you some pics of the R1 with the powedercoated parts on it, just haven't gotten any good pictures of it yet.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It take time, patience and practice.

So many thing play a part in being consistant.

I hired a firarms instructor, to shorten the learning curve, with my first handgun.

I still need to find someone willing to help me break a habit I have.

Here is what I see from your targets.

It looks like you anticipating recoil and jerking as you shoot.

You are changing the amount of finger on the trigger.

You gripping too tight and shoving as you shoot.

Looks like GOW did not translate, but then again, you don't use the pistol in the game, you use the sniper rifle. Seems you need to change the gun .

at 15 feet you should EASILYalmost punch out the orange zone with a 10 round mag.

it takes time.

holy shit, impressive!

congrats on being RIGHT on. I took note of Everything I did. and those were on my list.

I dont know what it was that taught me to combat "recoil"
so pretty much I combat recoil AFTER the fact, not pre/during.

I was testing tip of finger, then mid finger, etc.

I was being heavy forward on the pistol in anticipation of recoil again and prepping for next round.

haha chief, this is tru, I just need to pop on gears and brush up on pistol usage.

the term is called FLINCHING

not combat recoil

take that tip and remember the proper name, i dont want people to laugh at you when you talk about flinching, its very common to do especially on large caliber weapons. it is one of the biggest things a shooter must over come and also continue to manage while shooting.

hm, I would like to be observed. because I need to see what "flinching" is.

seriously, not being antagonistic or anything but I thought I had it recognized what it was and overcame the reasonable amount.

I know my eyes flinch and I am trying to see if its possible to overcome that.

I just need to go out and get trained some.

I think he meant it combat as in to "combat a cold". To fight off or to prevent. Not some super shooting style.

if your ever next to me shooting ask me i don't mind helping with simple things, but not totally making a class out of it.

you have to work on trigger control, and always be aware when you start flinching so you can know when it happens.

i wont type this stuff out on line but i have your answers, i have a little experience in these matters to say the least.

keep shooting and keep having fun

Another question is, which is your "dominate eye" vs firing hand?

I had a lot of problems, until I found I was dominate eye opposite.

Here is a fun little experiment.

Focus on a small object across the room. With one of your hands, touch your index finger to your thumb, to create a circle. Reduce the circle to about the size of a dime.

Now extend you hand an arms length away from your face. Place the circle over the object, keeping the object in focus, with both eyes open.

Without moving your hand, close one eye. Re-open eye, and close the other. Which ever eye had the object centered is your dominate eye.

Does it match with your dominate hand?

+1 this is how to determine which eye dominate you are. from there it doesn't matter if your a lefty or righty you will use your dominate eye for shooting.

Ken, I am sure I'm an opposed shooter. The only things I've found to work for me are, to close the dom. eye, or twist up my upper body to aquire the site.

Of those two I close the dom. eye. I'm uncofortable with the twisted stance.

Any other suggestions?

I don't shoot much, but want to work on it more.

Ken.

you know "please dont take me wrong" i can help the only thing is i don't have the patience anymore to TYPE this stuff out, and to try to elaborate correctly which could take 200 words to explain and have you confused. when in person it takes less them 2 minutes and i can show by example or evaluate you and correct you.

to try to answer this i will make it as short as possible and to the point.

shoot with both eyes open "everyone should be doing it this way" but ultimatly you need to do what works for you. BUT if you can learn to shoot with both eyes open, the advantages are:

dominate eye doesn't play to much of a key roll. while practicing both eyes open in a range it also adapts your brain into process everything that is going around you now MORE SO then if you only had 1 eye open. the key advantage is in high stress enviorment "CQB, building clearing, etc, etc" some stuff you might never have to worry about BUT when you instill these practices you now have become a better thinker/be able to process more around you, handle more hostile situations, control fear, etc, etc, etc" this is starting to lead into something else so i am stopping"

plain and simple start shooting with both eyes open, you can be VERY fast doing this and allows you to get away from being crossed up, and aware of your soruunding which leads you faster acquire times on the next target.

Thanks Ken.

I'll start using both eyes again, and work on altering my position, to best suit my individual curcumstance.

I was hoping I had overlooked something, which wouldn't have require a long post. Without witnessing my practice, I understand how it is not possible to accurately respond. I do appreciate the depth of your response.

Thanks.

not a problem also too on your "position" i refer to it as a stance, Isosceles or the Weaver 2 main platform stances.

train yourself to do Isosceles.

"square your body and chest to the target, both arms equally extended out in front of you.

Thank you for saying that everyone thinks it is so cool to shoot from a weaver purpose a a weaver was to make your profile smaller. Yes both eyes is the way to go I only used one eye with a rifle at 150+ and peep sites.

Or say fuck it and put red dots on everything since I never carry why not.

Ken I definately would like to try your full size Kimber. Since I have not shot 1911 since the Army took them away from us and I am almost positive the one that I was issued was not made much after 1911.

Since I have not shot 1911 since the Army took them away from us and I am almost positive the one that I was issued was not made much after 1911.
i dont mind you shooting a mag worth through it "i am not to keen on letting people shoot my stuff "call me greedy"

anyway, i dont think ill be able to go tomorrow. poker night is tonight, and i havent had a chance to go buy some 45acp. plus its gonna be a late night, ill see what time i crawl out of bed, but dont hold your breath on me showing up.

if we can plan a sunday for next time i KNOW i can make it. saturdays are a bitch for me.

You are way better than I was when I first shot a pistol. Keep on practicing!
