Very nice.

Did you guys see the new Ruger pistol built on the 10/22 base? It looks like a sawed off version of your new toy. Wicked.

Not to hijack, but this is the Ruger pistol I saw at GAT. I thought you would get a kick out of it. The .22 Charger. Looks like your toy's little bro. I thought it was cool, but I'm not sure if it has a real use. For the bucks, I'm all over your Ruger or another target variant way before this.

Well you guys got my interest in the 10/22 sparked again so I filled out the paperwork on this one
http://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail.as...22THG&list=yes
probably pick it up later this week.
This is actually my first rifle and I have no idea what I am talking about when it comes to scopes so any suggestions with out breaking the bank. I don't want to purchase something I will want to replace at the end of the summer.

It is a 22 so you do not need anything that is super powered. I saw a nice Nikon at Dick's. If you go to Cabella's and go to the bargain cove you can find a nice scope for a good price. They were bought mail order and returned. You can find a low end Leupold for a decent price.

I know I don't need anything too powerful. I mainly want the gun for plinking and shooting targets at the range. Is a scope that you use for 50 yards good up to 100 yards? Can this same scope be used for shooting closer targets say 15 yards or will everything be magnified too much? What sizes should I look at? Any suggested reading would be appreciated.

Nice Ruger. Should be a good plinker. For a .22 you don't really need more than a 4x. Of course, I've got a variable 6-12 x 56mm on my .22 plinker, which is silly, but happens if you find something miss-priced in a bargin bin.

I suppose you can use a 4x at 15 yards, but where are you shooting target rifle at 15? Yes you use the same scope at 50 or 100.

By target I mean squirrel.

I have been spending time on rimfirecentral and there are a lot of recommendations in different sizes to others that have asked which scope to buy. Quite a bit of those guys are building ultimates shooting a 100 yards.

The models I have been looking at online are the Leupold FX-1 4x28mm , and the VX-II 3-9x33mm. And there is a discussion on the Bushnell 3200 Elite 2-7x32mm w/firefly that is on sale for 119.95 @

Squirrel? Are you planning on hunting or target. 32 and 33mm don't gather a lot of light.
