Gsg-5

Any thoughts on the GSG-5?

I'm thinking cheap ammo, easy to use, semi-auto, and still kinda cool. It's only .22 so I can fire down the street at the indoor range.

I've read good and bad about these. They are cheaply made. They sound like a PITA to clean and maintain but they are fun and cheap to shot. Check out hkpro.com. They have a forum dedicated to Clones. There are many threads over there about the GSG5.

If you hold out a little while longer the famous company (sarcasm intended) Coharie Arms is releasing their .22 version MP5 clone. Rumor has it that they will use interchangeable HK parts in their build. Should be interesting if you can get past the BS with Coharie and T.B. Todd owns hk54.com. Any information about Coharie products can be found there.

Umm, I did. This is the 1st GSG-5 thread on CLSB. I have googled it and seen pretty positive reviews on just about every gun forum on the web.

Then why the fuck are you asking for more opinions on a MOTORCYCLE FORUM? Sounds like you got all the info you needed from those other forums!

No, your right. And this thread isnt about FOID cards either. It's about buying guns,1st guns, just like the links I posted if you bothered to read into them. But again, your looking for answers you want to hear, not what's fact.

If you want to hear the GSG 5 is great 1st gun to buy, you wont hear it from me. If you want to hear go get a 9mm, .40 or .45 as a 1st gun, you wont hear it from me.

Although being an asshole comes very natural to me, just ask some of the guys here that know me, that's not how I'm trying to come off. I see your thread just as seasoned rider would see some newbs thread of , " How Bout a BUSA as My 1st Bike"." 1st thing that come to my mind is... awe shit, I DON'T want this guy to make a mistake!

If Ponch sold half his guns, it would pay off my house and buy me a Ducati for every day of the week. True story. He is very knowledgeable with firearms. Ken gave him the title Weapons Tech Guru, and Ken himself knows a lot about weapons.

Swallow your pride, and listen to them. In the long run you will not waste money, and enjoy a terrific sport for a lifetime instead of being frustrated with sub par weapons and quitting shooting.

Ok I see your point, BUT a .22 doesn't sound like a busa. The $500 entry fee seems pretty cheap to me. I suspect we expect/want different things. The novelty does attract me the GSG. I'm NOT interested in modding a 10/22 (not yet at least).

Yes, there are other weapons I eventually want to buy (many less than $500), but I don't feel that I'm ready yet.

The W&H seems to be pretty active. I was hoping someone saw one or used one and could give me real feedback. I can understand a hunter, target guy, or hardcore gun guy not taking a look-a-like gun seriously.

I got to handle one, shoot one and break one already, thay are junk! I didnt get a chance to go to SHOT SHOW this year but got to handle alot of things shown there through other sources. The GSG was one of them. I had 3 days with one and managed to break 2 mags and a stock. the stock came cracked as it was straight out of the box, I just finished it off. The mags....plastic junk. I might be a man's man, but WTF.... I'd expect my firearm to hold up to mag changes!

And I agree,a BUSA isnt a .22, but a bad idea is a bad idea.

If you Don't want a 10/22 that's cool too. You can do a dedicated AR15 in .22lr if you wanted too in the same price range. Ok, maybe $50 more... but then you at least have the platform for 5.56 later.

See what I mean now when I say sit back and look b4 you leap.

10/22's arentthe only thing out there is they arent your slice of pie. I might be biased but to me this is a way "cooler" .22lr.
Dedicated .22LR upper that will out shoot that POS GSG every day of the week, and guess what, IT'S NOT PLASTIC. And when your ready you swap out the top end and you can play with the big boys and shoot 5.56 ammo.

Why do you not want to mod a a 10/22?

Get something decent get real good with it then you get toys to play with.

Nothings wrong with a 10/22. I'm not looking to build something right now. Plug & play is want I'm looking for. I also like hi capacity mags.

Ponch, I was on the impression that AR15's were converted to .22. Am I incorrect?

You can buy a dedicated upper and put it on a lower. When your ready you can get a new dedicated upper to drop on.

Hey Ponch, who makes this? That's beautiful. I was kicking around the idea of the GSG-5 as well for a BS plinker that looked Tacticool but after finding out it was plastic changed my mind. This looks like a much cooler alternative, will it fit to my RRA Entry Tactical lower without mods? Thanks!

BTW, I did get your message, I appreciate you following up with me.

That is a CZ dedicated upper. They can be had complete for less than $365. It comes with a standard free float tube standard but anted something diffrent so I swapped out the tube for this full length one. Mags are $20 for it and only hold 10 ronds but an aftermarket maker is going to make hgh caps for it. One small mod might need to be made to the unit itself, a 3 minute file job but thats it. There are other Mfg's that make dedicated uppers as well but all of those will be north of $500

"Ponch, I was on the impression that AR15's were converted to .22. Am I incorrect?"

you can convert a 5.56 chambered upper to shoot .22lr but there are more cons to that then pros.

That is cool his typical response when I ask him about something is I have 3 of them.

Except a right handed Biathlon rifle. He has a completely obscure lefty.
