ricochet or suicide?

self-inflicted makes a difference on accidental versus on purpose.

Self inflicted meaning that his gun killed him. Not someone else.

Yes, and that could be an accident (ricochet or dropped and it fired or other slim chance scenerios) or on purpose (suicide).

That distinction was my question... on purpose or accident.

Thats what the authorities say in the article that they are trying to determine.

News articles are generally static... was curious if there was any updates to the story on the determination.

One means the place is potentially 'not safe' to be open for business.. the other means someone had some problems going on and just decided to do it there but it could have been anywhere.

FWIW, GAT guns is the only range I've been to where I've had a round ricochet and come back to hit me in the foot. It was only going about 20 mph at that point and was only a 9mm, but still made me concerned.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just asked my friend who was with me, it was at J.R. Shooting Sports.

Reminds me of when a patron committed suicide, over at Maxon's, a few years back. He came in, rented a handgun & purchased 1 box of ammunition. Fired off 49 rounds downrange, and killed himself with the final round. Tragic

Good. Cause whether it was accidental, or suicide, had someone else been in the range who knows what would have happened.

Horrible either way.

No shit. I was going to hit GAT tonight, but ran late and blew it off. I wonder if it was a rental gun?
Why couldn't he just off himself someplace that wouldn't mess things up for the rest of us...?

What does Cabella have to do with some guy offing himself at GAT?

I think he was talking about how Cabella's cut's into GAT's business, then GAT has to deal with this incident.

Oh, thx. I still bought my last 2 pistols from GAT. I know I could have done better, but the selection and a couple of the sales guys are good. I wasn't about to hose them for $50 and I don't want them to go under and lose my local range even though it is a dump. Although, there were a couple specials at Cabella's that I came very close to jumping on. I do pick up most ammo from Cabella.

I heard there have been 2 shootings at maxon's. I know for awhile you had to have someone else with you to rent a gun. Not sure if that is still the case.

suicide by rented gun at range is more common than you may think , it's happened at most ranges but they keep it quiet , bad for buisness, in california i heard of several involving young asian women , now that bummes me out cuz i think they're hot,,,,,,, now they will not rent you a gun if you come by yourself , they figure if you have a freind with you then you probably didn't come to off yourself ,

Does anyone know if there have been any updates on this story in the passed couple weeks? (as to whether it was determined that the death was accidental or suicide?
