The Box o' Truth

For all the pistol caliber snobs out there, check this out.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Arguing which caliber has more "stopping power" is like privates arguing about who has more rank.

I was actually going through all my old bookmarks and found that one.

Thought it was relevant and interesting for all the new pistol owners it seems we've been getting lately.

Great site and great read but I still don't like .40S&W

Even if it doesn't come down to penetration, there is the issue of cost and capacity and the round being castrated and a bastardized version of the original round.

I recall reading it was because females and desk agents had a really hard time qualifying with it, but that was back when 10mm was full-power from the factory.

x1000 on that. 10 mm is a great round.

The good thing with the FBI is they developed the .40 MP5 and 10 mm MP5 in tandem to evaluate. Obviously the .40 won over but that still means there are parts out there to build a 10 mm MP5. >:0

All this 10mm talk is getting me thinkin about converting my G21 over. i need a house to set up my Dillon press first. No way I'm paying $300+ for 500 rds of practice ammo. I can get 1000 of NATO spec (approx. +P+) 9mm for 270. If I want cheapo weak stuff even less than that.

I'm a firm believer that a 9mm with thousands of rounds of practice behind it is more effective than a 10mm/.45/454 casull/whatever with just a few hundred rounds of practice.

Here is some good data from the FBI in regards to penetration and expansion for different rounds:

.357

9 mm

10 mm

.40

.45

I'm still reading these and trying to digest it a little more but my first instinct is to say, judging by this data, its not the caliber you choose but more importantly the type of round you choose. With penetration being the first goal and expansion the second you could almost select a particular round from any caliber that would produce similar damage.

not reading all that shit. but now your getting close to whats important with sized rounds that you or they have chosen for you, or restrictions.

penatration is always key for your target. and 2 holes are better then 1, unless you trying to keep collateral damage to an extreme low.
