Maxon's IPSC Combat Shoots

Maxon's IPSC Combat Shoots

Also starting tonight, are Maxon's IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) competition shoots. I used to participate in these for years, dropped away for the past 3 years, but am going to start again tonight. I actually met Biggy here, years ago too!

What is IPSC? It is pseudo-realistic competitive shooting. Go Google it for more info, but basically it is a timed event where you are doing more than just standing around. You're moving, you're dealing with targets behind cover, trying to avoid hitting no-shoot hostage targets, making tactical reloads, and shooting from behind cover.

Tonight is the beginner's session, so if you've never done this, no worries. This is a beginner's/introductory event, and we welcome shooters of all skill levels. You don't have to be fast and furious - slow is smooth and smooth is fast. You will need a major caliber firearm, in good condition, with a least 3 magazines. A standard hip holster is needed for all future competitions, but is optional for this event.

This is a great chance for all shooters to try something new, and to break away from just standing in a booth.

To get a taste of what we do, here's some video clips of me in years past:

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

Monday, October 13th
Monday, November 10th
Monday, December 18th
Monday, January 12th

Registration begins @ 6PM
1st Squad begins competing @ 6:30PM

There will be 2 stages of fire. $15 will allow you to run through each stage once. An additional $5 will allow you to run through each stage a 2nd time.

Cool. I was always looking for events like this when I lived out there.I've got a drawer full of holsters and crap that I got for it too. There was one they used to have at the place out in Lyons, but they folded right as I was looking to start.

I'd like to find one out here as a cheaper alternative to track days!

Unfortunately the ventilation there still sucks donkey balls. That's the one thing I hate about the place.

I'm thinking of attending tomorrow night. Do I just tell them I'm a newb when I register?

Is there a max magazine size? When I shoot with my glock, I normally just bring my 33 rnd mags.

Yes, just introduce yourself to folks and a vet will be happy to brief you. Due to work, I don't show up till a little later.

As for mags, you'll need a minimum of 3. Each stage is set up differently. Some are "field courses," in which you can run with whatever mags you want, so if you have a 30 rnd mag, you can rock the stage without ever having to reload. Other stages however, will have you make mandatory reloads, as part of the stage sequence. There will never be more than 2 mandatory reloads, which is why a minimum of 3 are required. Any size is allowed.

Yeah, I wish I could my .22 pistol. I love shooting that thing, and it's cheap too.

Nope. Folks who don't have a flashlight will be supplied with one.

We were actually tossing around the idea of integrating a shotgun with a light mounted on it as well (would be supplied by us as well).

Not really. We've done low-light stages before (with new shooters). This is nothing new to us. It's not like the range will be pitch-black.
