Gun/Shooting Range info

*I realize this is CLSB but I'm hoping we can all be adults and keep this on track*

Scattered around the forum is information on all sorts of on the various gun ranges in the area. I'm hoping to set up a central thread for it all.

The idea came to me because I'm interested in going shooting and spent almost an hour trying to find info on all the ranges in the area. I'm hoping to get OBJECTIVE info about these places.

I've called Maxon, Midwest, Mega, and JR. Maxon is 17/hour/person while Midwest is 12 for the day, Mega is 17 for the day and JR is 20 for the day. Is Maxon worth the significantly higher range fee than the rest? For $10 you can shoot every rental gun Midwest has while JR is $20/gun and no discount for multiple gun rentals.

As me nor the g/f currently have a gun I think we're going to go to Midwest as we can shoot the most and various guns for the cheapest. I've read that the air circulation isn't the greatest but at the cheapest entry fee and cheapest gun rental fee I can overlook that.

Ideally, I'd like to know:

Name of range and town it's in
indoor/outdoor
pistol/rifle/both
rental selection
condition of range (staff, air flow, lighting, target movers, etc)

I'm hoping this way we can get more people who are just starting out a good place to find all the info they need without hunting through thread after thread. Help everyone out guys.

JR's
aurora
indoor range
pistol/rifle/shotgun (shoot as fast as ya like, just no full auto)
rental selection (dunno, I always bring my own)
very nice range...(check their website)...set your own target distance (up to 70' or so) and the range has a little ventilation.
staff can be kinda dicks but not enough to be a PITA

I believe they give a discount to range if you buy ammo there

there's also G.A.T. guns up north...I go there when I have to do requals every 6 months, but I don't know much about them other then they have a large selection of guns

and that the range we use has the targets that move 90 deg from not facing to facing you

Midwest Guns
Lyons, right by Brookfield Zoo
indoor range
pistol/rifle/shotgun
huge rental selection (lot of Glocks, Berettas, 1911 copies, etc)
range looks slightly rundown, targets must be 36 feet away and is probably 60 feet long, ventilation could be a little better but never got foggy/smokey
staff was great, went over the operations of every gun I rented, gave good suggestions, etc

$15 for unlimited range time if you bring your own ammo
$12 if you buy ammo there

$8 to rent a gun/$10 and you can shoot everything they rent

you can bring someone in as a guest on your FOID card. They have a viewing area where someone else can hang out while you are shooting with the other. You can call and confirm but that's what I read from the rules they had posted on the wall

I'm sure some of you get a kick out of this .

Buy a high end air gun and shot in your house down the hall or in the basement .
Beman makes a gun that you can put 1911 grips on and has a dry fire feature
Your triger control and breathing will improve only thing missing is the big bang .you will become a better shot .

I'm going to brag but if you'd like to chalange me to prove it .at 33 feet I can put 5 ,177 into the space of you. 45 cal hole and drop a barn swalow every time.

Heh- I had one of those shitty Crossman 1911 knockoffs- the accuracy on that thing was so bad- you could watch the pellets fly off in an arc like some sort of Matrix physics.

When the pepper spray runs out, can I have your number?

This is a Range thread ladies, talk about your pumps elsewhere.

I have always preferred Mega, nice staff, REALLY pleasant to deal with, quality ventilation and for the day was really nice if you do a CLSB meet because you will kill a few hours.

JR CAN SUCK IT. over priced EVERYTHING, I used to go there as a kid when they were on maple and since then they have become real jackasses.

I didn't hear you take that chalenge big boy put your rounds where your mouth is.

I own some fire arms also but I don't know many people that can shoot hundreds of rounds a day practicing with there 45cal .

Trust me triger control and breathing don't give a dam what cal. the round is.

True shoters spend thousands of rounds a year learning thier art If you can qualify for the olimpics or shoot at that level your finding a way to shoot every day and a top quelity air gun will help you become a true marksman.

well that is all good information, I wanted to keep this thread limited to information about ranges in the area so people know what they are getting into when they plan a trip. After all, when you've got your breathing down you're going to have to put rounds down range to see how you've improved.

I've shot at Midwest, Maxons, Megasports.

Mega is EASILY the nicest, and worth the few extra bucks, IMO. Midwest is OK, and I didn't like Maxons all that much, but you can shoot rifle which is pretty cool.

Anyone been to Rinks lately? I've not been there in 5 years. I just called and they are still there, but I'm wondering what their stock and range is like these days.

I'm also noticing that Bell's appears to be gone, as well as one or two others I've been to over the years.

I don't know if they still have it, but Midwest used to have a 1/2 off range fee special on Fridays with ammo purchase.
