Shipping of Firearms (rifle)

What a f'in pain in the ass. --> to the Joliet USPS

Cliff notes: Next time I'll just let my FFL handle it.

The rules are very clear (Thanks Rob!!) but the people at the UPSP and UPS just don't have a clue. The instant they heard rifle I got the deer in the headlights look and 'We can't do that...'. Finally on my third attempt after printing out pages from the UPSP DMM book (Article 43 here if anyone is interested) I was able to get my rifle sent out. If Megasports didn't want to charge me $85 to send it out (plus shipping charges) I would have used them since they are so close.

Sorry, just had to get that out. It was a really frustrating experience... lol.

I had to ship a firearm once... well, just the frame, back to the factory for some work. Did it via UPS. Took it to a UPS store, declared the contents, and they didn't even flinch. Only requirement was that it be shipped overnight.

that sucks, should have asked to talk to a manager! Most Illinois residence don't have a clue about guns, i'm not surprised you got the deer in headlights look when you mentioned it.

On Saturday morning you should have seen it. I felt like a f'ing criminal. As I was standing there talking with the desk lady, after her fourth or fifth trip to the back, office type workers (not usual USPS workers) were coming out of the back looking at me suspiciously. I thought for sure SWAT was on their way. lol.

I think it's different if I were just sending a part but a complete rifle they could not comprehend.

I do plan on stopping at Joliet tonight after work with all my paperwork and asking to speak with someone. Today the lady in New Lenox was tops. We chatted about her husband and how much he wants a gun and how nervous she was about any future bans, etc, etc. Super nice. The folks in Joliet, however, were rude, ignorant, and treated me like I was trying to do something wrong.

I did mine at the Franklin Park Facility absolutely no issues. The only thing was they put adult signature required on it.

Coming back from Texas they left the Rifle in the door.

So next time use the UPS facility direct. They are usually higher in the food chain and know more things.

You can use UPS stores if it is not the serial numbered piece.

An AR 15 upper yes Lower no.
