Maxon's Heckler & Koch Day - Sat. Dec 13 @ 9AM-5PM

Maxon's H&K Day
Saturday, Dec 13
9AM - 5PM

This is the last of the three manufacturer shows by Maxon's. If you didn't (or did) make it out to the other two, mark your calendar for this one!

Come on out to Maxon's Shooter Supply in Des Plaines, for their Heckler & Koch Day. The way it works is that we will have a H&K rep there, showcasing the whole line of H&K firearms. There will be a special rental setup - there is NO base cover charge. Just fill out the standard range waiver, then you will be able to rent and try out any of the guns that H&K brings out. You must use our ammunition, which is sold in small quantities (5-10 round baggies).

I'll be working security detail for this show, so if you come on out and we haven't met in person, please introduce yourself and say hi.

1226 Rand Road
Des Plaines, IL 60016

--

EVENT UPDATE:

In addition, there will be a Practical Shooting demonstration around 4:15pm. Bring a friend along to have them see what we're all about.

--

The "Practical Shooting" demonstration, will be a demonstration of the USPSA/IPSC combat competitions that I participate in. If you happen to come around later in the day, stick around to check this out.

Handguns most likely. A carbine might show up like the USC or SL8. The firearms they'd be bringing out would be common commercially available hardware.

During each past manufacturer's day, Maxon's does sell all firearms of that particular brand with a discount. Their markup on handguns is minimal to begin with, so don't be expecting 20% off their prices though.

Brianne and I are in, but she's got her family holiday party that day. So we have to be in and out as quick as possible. I don't think her family would appreciate us showing up to the Xmas party smelling like a gun range. LOL

I'll see ya'll up there as soon as the doors open.

Bri is still considering the SIG Mosquito they have there (if it's not sold yet), but wants to try some other pistols first. We might just put some money down on that Sig to hold it till XMAS.

The show opens at 9AM sharp, so come out then!

I know in the past, Maxon's did a "hold for 30-days, same as cash" deal, if you put a $100 deposit on a gun. I don't see why they still wouldn't offer that.

Thanks for the Tip. Hopefully they'll have that out for her to try tomorrow. We've read both good and bad things about the Mosquito, but I think she likes it because it's in digital camo, and comes with a fake can.

I'm all for an HK (had to look up the MK23 as I'd never heard of it!). JK23 SOCOM looks the bidness.

Ask the reps about the Elite, Expert and Match. See what type of answers you get. Also ask why there is no US plant. The market is here for there "sporting rifles" yet they choose to not make them here and the few they do they don't market for civilian use. ask about their politics and see what answers you get. It's an HK, you know your getting build quality and performance, god knows your paying for it. ask about the politics and see what type of taste that leaves in your mouth.

One of the reasons I'm not a huge HK fan.
That, and the pretty lousy finishes on the pistols. For that much coin I'd expect something a bit more rugged.

I own a Sig Mosquito and I like it a lot. It almost has the same feel as my P226. It had some issues with some cheaper ammo but never with CCI Mini mags ($6.50/100 rnds), 600 rounds and no hick-ups. I currently use Federal copper plated high velocity (about $13/550 rnds). It FTE once every 50 - 100 rnds but I don't mind. I used the Remington brand before and the gun doesn't like (FTF and FTE). It's a good piece as long as you use the right ammo. BTW, get the newer version 'cause the older ones (few years old) are bad.

That sums up about what we read about the Mosquito.

I can't find that MK23 anywhere. It doesn't appear that it's made anymore, which sucks...because it looks like quite a pistol, and Brianne would love a tactical .22.

tactical 22?

The Mk23 is a $2500 .45 ACP. (for that kinda cheddar, gimme a Wilson or a Nighthawk!)

Ahh, I misunderstood. I thought it came in .22 or .45 I can totally see a subsonic tactical .22 I just figured that's what Ponch was suggesting when he shot down the Mosquito and prop'd the MK23. Those must have been different paragraphs. LOL

Yeah, MK23 is nice hardware, but doesn't fit what Brianne was looking for (nor the price range). So unless someone can suggest a good .22, it's probably what she's going to get.

Get a Ruger .22 Mark III. Love shooting that gun. Never had any problems and doesn't require much cleaning or maintenance. Used to use one for coon hunting. I think the supressed version of it has been used by the SOF.

Wilson, Nighthawk, Les Baer..... all the same shit. One guy gets pissed at one place and goes to work somewhere else. You get the same product. High quality material, great craftsmanship at 1st and then when they hit it ig you get "production" level gunsmithing at double the price unless you get there "custom" jobs which are 3K plus. Don't get me wrong these are great .45's but are not prone to issues. Between these 3 I've seen bent hammers, broken sights, cycling issues and feed problems. These are fine tuned 1911's thay have tolerences tighter than battle grade or combat grade 1911's and if anything happens your probably fucked. These are the guns I feel designed for the more Money than Brains people.

These are the bussiness men who like to have a $3k side arm in a shark skin Galco under their over coat as they get into their BMW. They will never be abused and at night get put in the sock drawer nest to a Rolex. Now don't get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with that mind you. I myself have a Lorcin next to my Swatch in my night stand, but that's because I know it's not going to get abused. In the field, the choice would be diffrent.

From an accuracy standpoint they are on par with a bullseye gun, but there's a reason why you never see articles with them undergoing any "torture" tests.

The MK23 as stated is a .45, sorry if I made it seem as if it was a .22.
For the record, again, the HK has features even teh "custom" 1911's don't. With teh MK23 I also got a pistol that will take a real suppresor with no problem as that is one of the things it was designed for, accuracy on par with a custom, and the backing of actual going through the military torture test and passing. $2500 well spent.

Back to the .22 front. Have you considered buying a 1911 in 9mm and a Marvel .22 conversion so she can have the best of both worlds? Buy once cry once. Stop pussy footin' with the $400 plinkers when witha little more $$$ you can have some big dog toys!

Arrogance has to be earned.
