Rem 700 PSS?

I've got a guy that possibly to trade his 700PSS .308 with a Millett 4-15x56 scope for my RRA.
anyone own one? Thoughts?

The millet scope is 2 steps from junk. Odds are he has cheap rings and bases as well. Other than that a used PSS can be had from $600 - $750 with NEW under $900. The rings bases and scope mean nothing to me so I wont even give them a dollar amount.

Also, how many rounds down the tube? Was it broken in properly? How did he clean it? Is the crown nice and sharp?

the 700 platfrom no question will shoot out an AR any day, to many variables on a used PSS anyway, unless you know and trust the guy.

The kit sound like it's ready to go out and shoot.

the only diffrence between teh PSS and a standard 700 is the McMillan stock and finish. Other than that it's the exact same rifle.

Arrogance has to be earned.

"Leupold steel rings and base. Approx. 300 rounds through it"

Dunno about a cleaning and break in, I'll ask.

I knew the PSS was pretty much the same as any 700 varminter.

What will it need? I figured on action bedding and maybe a Jewell trigger....

I had a PSS that was bone stock with an S&B scope on it. At 12 power I shot .65" @100 yards all day long.

I would not bed it right away. I would also not spend the money on a jewell. I had that as well. Nice trigger but not needed unless your shooting bench rest.

1) torque down to 55 inch pounds
2) Tune factory trigger
3) replace scope base and rings
4) Shoot and base line

Shilen triggers are great for these rifles, a bedding job may/may not be needed and ammo is the key.

I used FGMM 168gr in mine.

"Break in was cleaned after each round for the first 10 rounds and then cleaned after every range trip. I used Pro-Shot copper solvent and good ol Hoppes. Cleaned and returned to safe. This is one of the older PSS models that is no longer made. I think the only difference in it and a newer one is the finish is a little duller on the older ones and the crown is cut at a 90 degree insted of the now concave cut."

hmmm....I'm not familiar with the details of the PSS production history. Does this make a difference?

The only ones that were "special" were made in teh late 80's early 90 when they were know as teh Police SNIPER special (PSS) They were renamed the 700P (Police) to try and keep the nape PC.
The very early ones had barrels made out of house by a fellow named Mike Rock and the lands ang groovs were of 5R cut. Mike Rock is a master barrel maker. these rifles will bring a premium. The ones on the P models are standard inhouse blanks

If you think your AR is worth more than 1,000 then don't do it. For $2K I could spec out a rifle 10 times better with optics than that 700P your looking at.

The trade anitcipate that the RRA will go in stock form and I'll sell off the Magpul stock, EoTech, Troy BUIS. In that form, I think it's close. Then again, with the AR market being what it is at the moment, who knows.

I think he means crazy that the thought of a ban is near so people are paying an arm and a leg to get AR's.

As far as color goes, I just like black better

Yep. Used ARs are selling for practically NIB MSRP prices, its crazy. Most people expect another AWB, myself included. (which makes me very hesitant to trade for a non-evil "assault" rifle)
