Yeah, read that this morning as well. Sadly, they're over half a year behind the news, in this case. This is now a (hopefully temporary) way of life for any semi-serious firearm owner.

Target ammo seems to be more available around here than defense rounds... but it's still "catch as catch can".

Yeah, AP is way behind on this one .

should be ending soon, though. Primers are actually starting to become available after months of being sold out and backordered EVERYWHERE, and I'm seeing more ammo trickling in to local places as well.

If they are choking the ammo supply, wouldn't they have to cut back production, not increase it as much as they can:

Quote:
Americans usually buy about 7 billion rounds of ammunition a year, according to the National Rifle Association. In the past year, that figure has jumped to about 9 billion rounds, said NRA spokeswoman Vickie Cieplak.

yes its not so much a cut in production as it is people hoarding. also less brass is being recycled due to reloaders grabbing every piece they can get thier hands on.

Obama is good for the firearms industry.

That seems contrary to the article. Seems they can't make enough because people are buying and hoarding.

It's just alarmist paranoid Right Wing NRA gun nuts over reacting and buying every round they can find and screwing things up the supply and demand curve for change. There are no restrictions on production. There just isn't enough production capacity to keep up with demand at this time.

I've personally called a manufacturer, and spoke with some distributors about the shortage, and they all say it's simply the hoarders and tin-foil-hat guys that are wrecking the system. Not to mention, there is a war going on. There are no secret gov plans to keep us from having ammo, though I know that's the more provocative theory.

I have plenty of ammo to get me through the winter, and most of it was purchased at Walmart, just snatching it up as I see it. I'm waiting on more primers to come in and prices to drop a bit to stock up for my big winter reloading session. .223 has already dropped almost $100 per K since I bought it earlier this summer...so we are on the right track.

Due to a recent death of a friend on a bike, I may have access to 78,000 rounds of assorted ammo and around a hundred firearms as part of an estate sale at quite reasonable prices. I thought I'd put an early post here for those interested as long as this thread was running. I should have a list in about a week.

And yes, RIP
Left a wife and 2 young kids behind.
