Police: Man shoots, kills self while changing tire

COLUMBIA, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police say a 55-year-old man accidentally shot himself to death while trying to change a tire in southwestern Illinois.

State Police Lt. James Morrisey says Gary Wessel of Waterloo apparently was trying to pull a jack out of his pickup truck Sunday night along Interstate 255 near Columbia when it snagged a gun case.

A shotgun inside the case accidentally discharged, shooting Wessel in the chest.

His body was found near the truck on the road's shoulder.

Information from: Belleville News-Democrat, http://www.bnd.com

"When in doubt, use full throttle. It may not improve your situation, but it will end the suspense."

Sick, but funny.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

In general, shotguns are not that easy to discharge, no? I mean, unless the case opened up and he was trying to pull the tire iron through the trigger well...

I can think of several reasons both for, and against. But the fact that a round was chambered, safety was off, and something made his shotgun so easy to fire that it went off while in a case...those are the real issues.

doesnt take much with a loaded ready shot gun in the case if its padded and bumped right the padding can catch the tiger. Not much is needed to pull a SG trigger

go time traveler style and go back in time, fuck his grandma, then shoot forward in time and then fuck his mom. Then return back to present state and call him a the product of two incest whores and hes your son and show video of you plowing the both members of his family. .

Hesus...its to pathetic even laugh at, this moron just gave more ammo to the anti gun nut liberals on why the 2nd amendment should be repealed, or have more restrictions put on gun ownership. If this moron would of survived the incident, he should of been taking out and shot! Stupid F_uck!

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

On a side note, certain older model shotguns can discharge under forced contact (hitting it on stock for example). Regardless, if he spent the time to put it in a case and stick it in the trunk he should have cleared the chamber. A loaded gun not on your person has no value to you, so you might as well clear it.
