looking for cheap compact or subcompact - kel-tec PF9?

So, I got my CCW from PA and now can carry legally in most states that I visit.
I have Browning HP but it's way too big and heavy to conceal on me, so I started looking into a compact gun

requirements:
semi-auto, cheap, reliable, "beater" gun, 9mm, decent accuracy for the size. don't want .25 or .32 calibers, preferably something that had no hummer or slide bite, if that even possible.
budget is $300

current candidate - kel-tec PF9
any opinions? alternatives?

Thanks

Glock 19 (maybe the 26 if you're desperate for a smaller grip), spend a few extra dollars and get a real pistol.

Seriously. Would the IDF carry a Kel-Tec?

Beater gun and Carry gun are two VERY different mentalities, would you sell your bike for a Hyosung? Why would you trust your life to a plinker?

I have a firm budget.

and IDF would definetely use Kel-Tec - they are all about function, not brand.
Reviews about this gun are very decent. I would love to get Kahr PM9 or HK P7, or Walter PPK, but I would rather spend money on a trackday.
lifetime warranty and good customer service record as well.

A browning hi-power is too big?

You just need a better holster. I've been carrying a full size 1911 of a Glock 20 concealed for the last few years.

If you really want a miniature poodle shooter, +1 to Smartdrugs's rec. for the Glock 19 or maybe a 26 if you need something super small.

I wouldn't trust my life to a Kel-Tec. As a range toy, I don't doubt they're fine but my money would go towards a compact Glock, a Commander/Officer 1911, Kahr PM9 or maybe a PX4 compact.

My point about the IDF is that they don't mess around when it comes to nice weaponry, Kel-Tec doesn't fall into that category. If you're going to bother carrying a pistol, make it a nice one that you can rely on and clean it often.

CZ makes great pistols, I'd run one.

Agreed with was Brian said. Also consider the XD9.

As for that Ruger; rumor has it, it's the largest cause for the shortage on .380 over the past year.

Actually from what I've heard that is because 380 is made on the same assembly line as 9mm and they haven't been shutting the line down to switch tooling due to the demand for 9mm.

any reccomedations? I have fobus paddle standard holster - not too concealable, and I would like to wear it inside the pants, so it's definetly too big, especially when it has to compete with my love handles for space

Shit, a full size 1911 and a Glock 20 are both bigger than a Hi power. I was carrying both in a Comptac CTAC, and for awhile used a Comptac MTAC for the 1911. Both are IWB type holsters and work great even for bigger pistols. A good holster really makes a difference.

Oh they are great, but it's still not 100% concealed. there will still be a buldge etc. in a state like IL that could get you in trouble.

why do you think they cant keep LCP's in stock here

It would be 100% concealed if you weren't wearing spandex

I was at the range yesterday and seen a keltec p11 for $289.00. You might want to look at a Glock 26 or 27, both are good for CCW.

I thought we went over this , G26 or PM9 . If your life is important , stick with the good ones . PPKS , P230 , etc ., for a smaller caliber . I would look into an AMT Back up , I dont know anything about them , but they feel good in my hand . P7M8 , the best .

will you buy it for me? We talked about it and you said nothing back about kel-tec at that time.

P11 gets mixed reviews, their P30s are crap, but no matter where I look, I see reviews of PF9 as a solid reliable carry gun. if I had 600 to burn, I would go with PPK or CZ75, but I have at least 9 trackdays to pay for this year.

You can find something in the 400-500 range . In fact , you can get a used G26 for about 400 tops. A friend of mine bought a G27 for 350 less than a year ago.
