CLSB Runners Club - Spring Break Edition

Round 4 of the CLSB Runners club starts today! This is basically the March's runners club challenge, but that doesn't sound nearly as exciting as remembering that Spring Break is right around the corner! Plus, why not use it as a little motivation to burn off some pounds going into that spring break travel season? Or build some leg and core strength getting ready for those early season track days?

Again, please join up with us and set a personal goal for yourself. Even if you've never run for "fun", start small and build up some stamina. I will more or less be starting from scratch now that I have my new FiveFinger shoes, but I'm looking forward to getting outside and enjoying the little bit more daylight and steadily increasing warmer temps outside. Use this challenge as a final warm up and look for the next challenge to be a longer one, maybe two months to get us to the end of spring before setting some summer goals!

This challenge is already set up on the Nike+ website so we can use the Nike+ systems

http://nikerunning.nike.com/nikeos/p...il/2013779016/

I'll try my best to keep an updated totals list on the first page. Hopefully the Mods can help me keep the list as accurate as possible.

I'll stay in Muddy. I need to concentrate efforts on swimming, but I'll be keeping up on running. So I keep my consistency.

P.s. I'm only going to post up weekly totals.
As always, I am using Nike+, so you can look there if you want my daily mileage.

I'm already dead sexy for spring break, but I'll throw in a mile here and there. Man, and I was all set to knock out the front runners on the last challenge too. We'll see how this one goes.

What's hurting now? Hopefully you'll be back to full strength on the next challenge.

I'll check your miles when I get my info to post. I always log my stuff on there after each run so I'll update yours at the same time.

down to 2 1/2 months for the Xterra. I don't know about you but it's time to mainain current strengths and work on the weaknesses! Namely, swimming!!! I talked to my coach about it yesterday. We're going to do a video analysis Sunday and start adding more swims in my workout. I'll still do the same though and throw a few miles here or there. Just picked up some new shoes yesterday anyhow since I was way over miles on my last pair.

Yeah I'm gonna up my game in the next few weeks for sure on the swimming part, but I have to run at least a little for the Shuffle. I want to at least beat last year's time. Prolly on Thursday I will work on setting up a group time for me and two chicks to get in the pool together.

My pain all seems to be arch related.
I just hope I can get all my issues out of the way be the end of April.
At what point, I plan on stepping up my training.

Thanks in advance, for checking my miles.

I use mine every time I run. I had the wrist version for a while until I got my iPod for Christmas so I picked up the iPod version of it. Both work very well with the iPod version having a few more bells and whistles - talks to you, tells you when you hit distance milestones, etc that the watch didn't do. The watch also lacks a back light, but didn't really bother me too much. I hate running without them actually. I like that I can log all my info online and I can setup these challenges as well as join others, train for many different distances, train for speed, all sorts of stuff. It does require a calibration to get it a little closer to your stride/speed and if you're taller then I'd really recommend it. Maybe I'm just a technology fiend, and I think you might fall into the same category, but it does a great job at keeping me motivated. I even downloaded the screen saver off the website that tells me when I'm being a fat ass and not running. All in all, I'd really recommend it to anyone who wants to do running as a hobby. If you're really hardcore, then the GPS versions are more accurate and such, but for most people out there, this thing works perfectly fine.

i always had pretty bad knee problems that was partly due to collapsing ankles which always kept me off the treadmill. i went to running right in HP where they "diagnosed" me and put me in a pair of shoes with some extra arch support - i've been running for a couple weeks now and feel fine. it's actually helping to strengthen my knees now, they've felt better than ever. maybe head over there and see if they can help get you in something a little more comfortable. worth a try i guess...? it's just nice that there's still a store where the people working there actually know what they're talking about, and don't sit behind the counter and fetch shoes you think look cool instead (only to come back out and tell you they only have the sizes 1 bigger and 1 smaller than you really need).

anyway, i'm gonna jump in the comp this month. any source of motivation helps ig uess

1.5 miles yesterday and today for 3 miles tot.

Actually, that is the route I have just taken.
This last weekend, I went to "In Step" which is a physical therapy and runners store. The girl that helped me, looked at my current running shoes and pointed out how the side wall were collapsing, due to my falling arches.

The result is a new pair of running shoes, new insoles and a ton of pain to deal with.
I really should have gone back in Dec. when the issues first started.

hope it helps! it made a world of difference for me... i started out on the elliptical and a stationary, but once i felt like my knees were getting some strength back, i was pleasantly surprised at how well they held up on a treadmill. now it's even got me and my bro talking about triathlons

Make sure you slowly break in getting used to these shoes. X solved his ITB issues with the five fingers, but then ended up with plantar faciitis and a sprained toe.

The girl at InStep said the Five Fingers are a good training tool, but to only use them for short runs/sprints. After years of unnatural running it takes time to get accustomed to natural running.

I'm undecided if I'm in or not. Played indoor soccer for the first time in over a year last weekend and it effin KILLED me so I should probably get back at it again.
