Elliptical

OK... the time has come to purchase an elliptical machine.

Back when I was working out at Ballys, Precor was everywhere... but other than that I have no clue.

What brand/model will be the most durable and give the best bang for the buck? Is it worthwhile to go used?

What should I expect to pay?

I've got plenty of space, so size isn't an issue. I'd like something that has an incline feature... other than that not concerned with the 'bells and whistles' gadgets so much as I'm wanting something that is rugged and WORKS.

Thanks, ya'all!

Kim

I vote Life Fitness, but Im biased because I work for Mercury (A Brunswick company) and got one of their X5 models with the advanced console for cheap.

Expect to pay $1600 - $3500 for one (any elliptical) that's higher quality and has some bells and whistles. The advanced console for Life Fitness has the remote chest strap, fat burning routing, and a bunch of other nice features. A must have over the base console.

Besides that, most Ellipticals should have some sort of automatic resistance increase. If you want adjustable stride length (which is nice for varying workouts), expect to pay $500 - 800 more. For you I would recommend a Life Fitness X1 with Advance Console. $2250 MSRP, but you should be able to find a used one cheaper.

Most people just don't use them. I'm pretty consistent, and have 250 hrs on mine in just under a year. All the bearings, bushings, etc. are still good.

My parents bought a Precor about 4 years ago, still use it daily and haven't had an issue yet.
