Running Shoe Store?

Are there any stores in my area that help pick a shoe by watching your running stride?

I'm losing weight, but still pretty heavy, and I had some foot issues last year...I want to make sure I get the best shoe for *me*. So I'm looking for a shop to help me pick correctly.

My old New Balance I picked myself, and I'm not sure they were the best choice...they have been relegated to "cutting the grass" shoes as of yesterday.

I was partial to Dick Ponds, but there are a few in the area. I know this has been discussed many times on here, search around.

I did, but all I saw were references to stores; I want to make sure I go to one that diagnoses stride.

I'd call ahead to double check and make sure you don't need an appointment or anything.

Just go to fleet feet, no appointment necessary. They'll watch your stride if you like, either on an instore treadmill or outside. They'll make recommendations too based on what your intentions are. there is one in elmhurst.

I just got off the phone with NRC as you were posting this. They said to show up with my current shoes, and shorts so they can watch my stride below the knees, and to show with plenty of time to watch me run on the treadmill.

Exactly what I needed. Thanks guys!

NRC, is a good choice. There is a Dick Pond in Lisle, right down Chicago Ave. a bit east of Naperville Rd. Also a Road Runner Sports or something like that next to the Bdubs on 75th and 59. For future reference.

I like Fleet Feet. Buy your first pair there and then if they are pricey for you, go online and buy replacements at a discount. That's what I do; I wear sort of hard-to-find-in-stores Etonic Jeparas, anyway, so the whole internet thing works for me.

If you don't find what you are looking for, there is a place in Palos called Running for Kicks. They are very very good. My foot doctor suggests them to his patients.

I don't ride, I cook!

UPDATE: I went to the Naperville Running Company, and spent about 45 minutes with John.

He was very cool, very supportive of my getting back into shape...it's nice to get that outside encouragement, and he even recommended a Walk-To-Run thing they are hosting.

Anywho, I tried on 7-8 pairs of shoes, ran on the treadmill and he videotaped my stride. He said that my stride looks really good, and I should just keep doing what I'm doing. It turns out, the New Balance 1221 that I picked out 4 years ago are probably the *perfect* shoes for me. I picked the correct width and model and everything. Since they didn't have the current version (New Balance MR1225) in my size, I went with the MR850, which supposedly has better rigidity which is good since I hurt myself last year.

Awesome store! Good prices on shoes, great customer service, but accessories were really expensive there.
