Possible 2 mile open water swim with post run...

Tentatively planning a 2 mile swim in Lake Michigan this Saturday the 5th with a short run directly following. Anyone interested? Slower pace I'm guessing. Going with two chicks I know from LA Fitness that will be doing the Racine HIM with me. Fairly early in the morning though, we are meeting at our gym at 5:30am and driving down.

If I was not doing an Olympic Distance Tri on the 6th, I would consider this.

I haven't done it yet. I could very well drown on this one.

What part about "morning 5:30am" didn't you understand?

This is still on regardless of weather. Rick is going too. Hopefully he brings some floaties. Man these chicks are hard core. I asked if they were still planning on it with the weather and she asked me if I was gonna melt!

It was great. Swam 1.5 miles along the shoreline, and you could stand almost the whole time, but in a wetsuit you float like a bobber anyways. Goofed around the first .75 miles to the other beach, and then hammered back nonstop. Found out who was actually faster between me and Scoots too. Water was clean, no waves, and decent temp with the suit on. Good stuff. I encourage anybody wanting to try this to do it. It's not that bad at all, and you can stand when you want to rest.

Yes you will! It was a great day. I tried one of the girls' goggles and they were much better than mine. A little bigger with a wider field of vision and fog free. They ruled. Scott already has a pair he bought a few hours ago. It is much better running with other people on the lakefront too, not nearly as boring, and the eye candy is nice! I might do the Lake in the Hills tri next weekend, but I'm not sure yet. If I don't I will probably go downtown again to swim and run.

If they are the aquashere hybrid mask you can have mine. They don't fit me well and leak. They may fit you better. Remind me to bring them next time I see you.

What's up with you and Scott skipping out on Sunburst?

Well you know Scott, directly after our swim he went to REI and picked up a pair for himself and me. Thanks for the offer though bro.

I'm not sure I'm skipping Sunburst at all. I never said I was, but I'm not sure what I'm doing yet. Scoots has a tri in Lake in the Hills and wants me to go too, but I probably won't. I am leaning towards Sunburst.

LITH is not a very great set up. It's a point to point race with parking at an alternate location. I'm not a fan of neighborhood races all that much. They're not picturesque and the bike/run courses are usually crappy although this one is one of the better neighborhood bike/run courses although LITH is not as rural as it use to be.

Yeah, I was thinking of this too. I shyed away when I heard there were 2 transition areas. Most people I talk to complain about that alot

This is what worries me about that Naperville one you mentioning. Heard anything good/bad about it?

FYI - might be hitting the lake front for some swimming next sunday

I did not hear it had 2 transition areas, but Chills could confirm. It's really supposed to be newbie friendly. I really signed up to do it with the wife for her first tri. I still need to find an Olympic to do.
