Yep. Did a dumb thing and signed up to run with a girl.... and I just ended things with her.

But hey, I've been running six miles at a time now, got my time down to about 49 min. I figure I'll just slow down and I should be fine.

Vcook, you can bring strollers, but you'd have to start at the back of the pack, thats' all.

Seriously, I see strollers in races all the time. As long as you're in the back, it shouldn't be an issue. (but then again, I'm not a dad, so I've never actually done this myself).

it's a big jump from 6 miles. People do it. But people get hurt making big jumps like that too. It's just a higher risk.

THIS IS ENCOURAGEMENT! I'm encouraging you to put in the time and build before you attempt the distance.

Trust me, I'm not perfect either and have made bigger jumps than I should have on paper. You seem more casual about doing things like this. I just thought you'd like to know the risk. I have no doubt that you could do this

If everyone trained like you we'd all be fat/tired/hurt and worthless.

CP's daily training bible:

Wake up 4am- run 10 miles
eat 12 pancakes 4 eggs and a bag of m&m's
6am- ride 20 miles to work
work 13 hours eat a large little ceasers pizza and garlic breadsticks for lunch
scarf down 2 more bags of m&m's
bike 20 miles home pick up 2 chipotle burritos for dinner
Hop on the bikes with family and head to Baskin Robins
sleep 4 hours.....repeat........

Chris,

here's a good build plan for a 15k. This one is known as a little "aggressive". You've got plenty of time. You could probably get away with starting on week 7 and building the next two weeks or just start how ever many weeks we are out from the event.

Thanks for the link, good info. I appreciate the advice and I'm going to take it. I've got almost a month to do this distance, which is plenty of time. I'm going to try to run 8 miles this weekend, and then 9 the following weekend. The weekend before the 15k I'll be in Kentucky, so no running.

Oh? They have a law there against running or something? (just kidding).

Now I'm motivated to sign up for this and bust it out. (the 5k that is, lets not get crazy here!)

Kentucky=rock climbing. I'll be dead at the end of each day so it's Miguel's Pizza and then rackin' out in my tent.

So I'll consider it a weekend of "cross training".

Hmmm, I'll think about it. I'll just be coming off Computrainer classes then and looking to kick some butt on the MTB, but I think I want to tackle a marathon this coming year for sure. I might wait until the end of the year though, but we'll see how my running is going. After next weekend I hit the running hard all through the winter.

you are right. I started running 3 miles at a time and one day jumped up to 6, ever since then my knees have been bothering me and it really sucks. I'd run this if it weren't for that. I ran 2 miles today and walked a half mile to cool down. They were fine all day but are a little sore now.

You have no idea what my imagination is like. Willie Wonka has nothing on me.

Well, here is about what I got:

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/52937434

I'm shooting for 8 minute miles for this deal.
